AUGUST AUG! 15
Leave us not forget that before there were SNAKES ON A PLANE, they served Snacks On A Plane. But if Snakes gets popular, what then? You know how copy-cat Hollywood can get! My God what then? In the interest of cornering the market on rip-off movie titles and pursuing subsequent litigation, Kelly Parks and Feo Amante would like to sumbit these titles for your consideration. There is no need for much explanation, as the name says it all! That's high concept! For example, do you know what's worse than Snakes On A Plane? I do! You can block snakes. Throw blankets over them and stomp on them. Douse the blankets with boiling hot water and kill them. But there is one thing that would leave you hopeless and helpless. A creature that doesn't have to be near you to attack - and in flight yer defenseless from SKUNKS ON A PLANE! Or perhaps, Kelly: LEMURS ON A YACHT Kelly: GOATS ON A FERRY, KOMODO DRAGONS ON A GLASS BOTTOM BOAT Kelly: SQUIDS ON AN ELEVATED TRAIN Feo: DONKEYS ON A POGO STICK! HIPPOS ON A ROLLERCOASTER!
Kelly: Now that's a movie! I'd pay to see that. Here's the trailer: You see a guy in a roller coaster, slowly going up the first big hill. He looks happy and excited. Then he notices that sitting next to him is a hippo. And in all the seats around him: hippos! The top is approaching. Then he sees a plaque in the car: Weight Limit: 2000 lbs. Ahhhhhhh!
The happy young couple who have their future ahead of them. The shy guy and the girl who just broke up with her married boyfriend. The jive talkin' tough black cop who would risk his life for white people. And the grandparent with her grandchild. Kelly: Yes! Feo: CHICKENS ON A CHOPPER! PIGS IN A GONDOLA! SPIDERS IN A PICK-UP TRUCK! CATS IN A CONVERTABLE! FUNGUS ON A BLIMP! ANENOMES IN A ROCKET! Kelly: DENEBIAN SLIME DEVILS IN A STARSHIP Feo: CLAMS IN AN ELEVATOR! TUNA ON A POWER MOWER! URCHINS ON AN ESCALATOR! TURTLES ON A SKATEBOARD! And a MOOSE ON A ZAMBONI! Hey! Don't give us that look (Oh I can picture your look!)! And don't get shitty with us either (I'm shit sensitive)! You think we're the only ones wasting our lives thinking up stupid crap like this? You couldn't be more wrong! Why, the most brilliant minds in the world - or at least those who work for MSNBC - are doing the same kind of thing. Only ours are funnier ... because we said so. Oh wait, this is a Horror Thriller site. I meant to say that ours are scarier! Yes! Ooooo! SCARIER! HAPPY

AUG! 14 From Geoff Beckett So, without any further fanfare, Indie Spotlight series 1 will now feature Madman, Shadowhawk, Scud: The Disposable Assassin and Katchoo of Strangers in Paradise! Company head Geoff Becket remarked “It’s like fate is playing a bigger part in our operations as of late, but everything is working out for the best! We are all immensely happy with the new choices for Indie Spotlight Series 1 and feel they better represent the diverse nature of indie comics today.” Wassmorr As of yesterday the Beef Cake the Mighty Exclusive will be available online to those who could not make the trek out to San Diego this year. There is no limit set yet per customer and they are going fast. You can view a more detailed image of the figure right here sculpted by Justice Joseph! And if you are attending the Sounds of the Underground tour going on now GWAR will have the Beefcake exclusives on hand at the show at their merchandise table, so get splashed, get thrashed and take a Beefcake home! Wave1 of the GWAR action figures will be expected to hit stores this fall including Oderus, Beefcake and Techno. They will feature a slave, an ice base, an instrument and a weapon; pictures of wave1 here. Keep watching Shockertoys.com for more updates on Indie Spotlight and GWAR! GWAR is a satirical thrash metal/punk band formed in 1985-1986 by a group of artists and musicians at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. The band is perhaps best known for their elaborate sci-fi/horror film inspired costumes, raunchy lyrics, and graphic stage performances. For more info visit: GWAR! For more about the 2006 San Diego Comic Con, check out Blog/MySpace.com/FeoAmante! TECHNICOLOR MAYHEM Delirium Books is proud to present this miscellany from Brian Keene (NO REST FOR THE WICKED, THE RISING, CITY OF THE DEAD, THE CONQUEROR WORMS) and artist Zac Atkinson. Word of a major comic adaptation of Brian Keene's The Rising rocked the genre as did the unfortunate news of its sudden cancellation. Fans lamented that they'd "never see the unfinished project" until now! A combination of art book, script book, and history lesson, THE RISING: Death In Four Colors includes Keene's completed comic scripts for issues one through three, and Atkinson's artwork, sketches, and layouts. It also includes an outline for the unfinished issues four through six, and an all-new, lengthy essay by Brian Keene, in which he frankly discusses the creation of the comic and details the factors that led to the unfinished project's ultimate downfall. Only 500 copies were printed and they all sold out within 3.5 hours of this announcement. HAPPY

AUG! 11 JAMES WOODS' BROTHER IS GONE Michael died of a massive heart attack in Rhode Island. The brothers were very close and James is setting up a Scholarship Foundation in his brother's memory. Full story at Fox11. The EYES EVERYWHERE contest is officially over and author, Matthew Warner is off to the Horrorfind convention in Baltimore, Maryland, today to announce the winner. But just where in the hell was the eye at Feo Amante's Horror Thriller? Start by going to Fanboy. I'm having it open in a separate window for your convenience. Okay. The Fanboy rating system shows a character with eyeballs busting out of his head. The Comic Eyeball on some pages is electrified! Now go to the Comic Review page of Alan Moore's Courtyard. This page could also be found in the alphabet section of the Comic Book reviews.
Think your vampire story would make a great screenplay or movie? Not right now it won't. Vampire movies have bombed and bombed big at theaters for the past six years. Blame Bush, why not? Blame the studio; the writers who wrote the awful vampire movies lately; or anyone else you like. They still aren't going to buy your vampire story. Now for the good news. Hollywood is really wide open and looking for good original Horror Thriller scripts. All they want in return is something nobody has done before. Werewolves are out, zombies are over their curve, and yet something along the lines of your modernized bio-genetic Frankenstien story might just work. But first, let me slap you with a dead fish. SLAP!!! ORIGINAL! Hollywood is now looking for Original Horror Thriller! Not just Horror, and no more tropes. If you are actually doing something like, say, writing something original, perhaps a little psychological, then you just might have something that a film company is willing to invest a lot of money in. It also helps if it's a good story. HAPPY

AUG! 10 FROM OUT OF THE SHADOWS There are a few things happening over at Paul Kane's Shadow Writer site at the moment. The first is an absolutely free competition being run in conjunction with Abaddon Books (an imprint of Rebellion, who also own 2000 AD) where two lucky winners will each receive a complete set of Abaddon's new titles (worth almost £28). The easy to answer questions are on the site, and 15 runnners up with receive a copy of the sampler booklet with extracts from each of the novels. Second is an article about Terry Gilliam's new movie Tideland with quotes from the director, writer and cast (which includes Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Tilly). The piece also contains a short retrospective of Terry's career so far. Plus there's news of a competition being run by the British Fantasy Society and Revolver entertainment, and dates where you can meet up with Terry himself.
ALL YOUR SNAKES ARE BELONG TO US If so, you are on the way to destruction. Make your time. This link should help you understand what I'm about to say: AllYourBase. That said? 'Nuff said. We are no longer particularly in the business of writing for great justice. But now there is another phenomenon online. A phenomenon so damn Hollywood that it was necessary to take their greatest strength from them: that strength being snakes.

IT'S BRETT'S HORN AND HE'S GOING TO BLOW IT You might recall that back in March I alluded to some big-ass cool news that I couldn't spill 'cause contracts hadn't been signed. Well, they're still not signed, but negotiations are under way, and my new agent has put me on her website in the list of clients, as well as in the catalogue they send around to publishers, so since she broke the news first, and it's available on the Internet for all to see, I guess this cherry's been popped: Back in March, after a two-year wait, I finally sold my novel IN AND DOWN to the Canadian literary publisher Brindle & Glass. The most exciting part about the news is that, unlike my other solo novel/short stories/novellas, this book will be available in bookstores across Canada. I've had several short stories in anthologies that've been in bookstores, but never something with my name and my name alone on the cover. Seriously fuc*in* cool. Pub date is September 2007. Edits are coming to me this month, then B&G will be sending out several cerlox-bound copies to various potential blurbers - including China Miéville, Clive Barker, Hal Niedzviecki, James Morrow, Kelly Link, Michael Marshall Smith, Ramsey Campbell, Kenneth J. Harvey, Peter Straub, and, with any luck, Jonathan Carroll. To be honest, it's a little terrifying to know those people will/might be reading the book. But exciting, too. I dig the hell out of all their work. In the meantime, Carolyn Swayze (said new agent) will be shopping around the remaining available rights. This on top of the paperback release of my and David Niall Wilson's MY EYES ARE NAILED, BUT STILL I SEE coming this December from Delirium, plus my first short story collection, THE TIME BETWEEN LIGHTS, coming around mid-2007 (also through Delirium). So. I am one pleased mother*ucker with the way my writing shit is going right now. I'm excited as all good get-out about IN AND DOWN being published by a literary house that gets reviewed in major newspapers and who publishes Governor General's- and Giller Award-nominated writers. I can't wait to see what people make of it 'cause it's the work I'm most proud of to date. DEAD DAUGHTERS SPEAK ENGLISH Gold Circle Films has optioned English-language remake rights to Russian horror pic DEAD DAUGHTERS, with scribe Jared Rivet on board to adapt. Directed by Pavel Ruminov, original film centered on three girls who are murdered by their mother. To seek vengeance for their untimely deaths, their ghosts randomly pick people to watch. If that person does something wrong or acts out of line, the girls hold a merciless trial. Gold Circle topper Paul Brooks will produce the redo with shingle's Scott Niemeyer and Norm Waitt taking executive producer credit. Gold Circle's Zak Kadison, who negotiated his company's deal with Central Partnership's Armen Dishdishyan, will co-produce. Rivet previously penned "Killers of the Dead" which is being produced by Brian Witten and will be directed by J.C. Barros. New, 11, teaser.
From John Shirley Shirley's IN DARKNESS WAITING, in development with Gold Circle (WHITE NOISE), "is now moving forward very quickly and there's a strong desire to get into production by early next year at the latest" according to production sources. Matt Venne scripts. The novel was re-published by Infrapress last year. Shirley himself is now writing a script, adapting his novel CRAWLERS. There is also interest in his soon-to-be published novel THE OTHER END. The new edition of his novel CELLARS, also from Infrapress, is garnering heavy movie interest as well. A new John Shirley story and interview will appear in the next issue of the newly re-designed WEIRD TALES magazine #342 in September. Shirley, a resident of the San Francisco Bay area, will be attending The 64th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) 23-27 August 2006 in Anaheim, CA. Anybody who is remotely familiar with SNAKES ON A PLANE knows how Samuel L. Jackson merely heard the title of John Heffernan's story and knew he wanted to be in it. For the past year, the movie has taken on a life of its own on the Internet not seen since the last Internet movie fan sensation, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Now you can check out the lastest streaming videos on the making of the SNAKES ON A PLANE music video. QuickTime Windows Media Player Snakes On A Plane is also up at MySpace.com/snakesonaplane and you can win free tickets to the premiere! And of course, the Snakes On A Plane fan sweepstakes is still running at the official movie site. There, I hope that holds you until AUG! 18. HAPPY HORROR

AUG! 2 From EricJCHICAGO BOUND What's up, what's up? Well, two weeks ago was San Diego (see my blog - Feo) and just like that it's time to jet on off to Chicago for a little show called Wizardworld: …um… Chicago, appropriately enough (though I think it would be more properly titled ChicagoLand, cause it's not really IN Chicago, it's, like, Chicago-ish, but I digress). Fun times. I always dig this con because it's a) not home and b) whereas SD is a giant, spectactular, mad orgy of pop culture goodness, WW:ChicagoLand is more laidback. "BLAIR WITCH" CO-CREATOR TO USE abazab FOR CASTING CALLS Filmmaker Leads Internet Revolution for Finding and Selecting New Talent HOLLYWOOD, CA - "Blair Witch" Co-creator, Dan Myrick, announced that he is conducting an open casting call for his upcoming production, "The Objective," using an abazab Playbox™. Actors will be able to submit their auditions directly to Dan and his Gearhead Pictures Team either via file upload or by recording directly into the Playbox using a web cam or iSight. Casting calls require actors to drive long distances, fight for parking, and wait in line for hours before the audition. Likewise, the current heat wave and high gas prices also could artificially limit the talent pool. The answer was new technology from abazab, where all the auditions can be collected, managed, and moderated in a single location, on the Gearhead Pictures Blog site. Several key roles will be cast using this method, including: - CAPTAIN MATT MCCARTHY (34): A West Point graduate whose old man was an "Dan and his team continue to lead as visionaries for independent film and the internet," said Duane Kuroda, VP of Marketing at abazab. "We are pleased that the abazab Playbox can bring their actors and casting directors together and revolutionize casting calls." Complete instructions for submitting auditions are available on "The Objective" casting site (). Established in 2001, Gearhead Pictures was formed by Daniel Myrick to help facilitate various solo projects, ranging from feature films to internet content.
