SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON BLUNDER PART IV
I'm eating ribs in a Kansas City BBQ place near the Comic-Con with my bud, Jim Smith. The restaurant was celebrating their 20th anniversary since the movie TOP GUN had been filmed there (well, part of it anyway).
Continued at Blog.MySpace.com/FeoAmante.
From Michael Laimo
A DEAD DEEP DARK DESECRATION
My next novel, DEAD SOULS, will be released at the beginning of February, 2007. I'm going to go out on a limb right now and say that this is my best, and most scariest novel to date. A lot of sweat went into this one, and I believe it shows. It's a wait from now, but to whet your appetite, you can check out the cover, which was just recently released to me. See it at my website at laimo.com, or at my MySpace/MichaelLaimo.
On the movie news front, DEEP IN THE DARKNESS is in the development stages and is still on track to begin filming in the Fall of 2007, for a Summer 2008 release. TRIPTYCH, the film anthology of three of my short stories, has been delayed in favor of filming a full-length feature of my short story ANXIETY. ANXIETY was one of the stories originally considered to be included in TRIPTYCH, but the screenplay for it had run too long. Upon further consideration, the crew at Burning Grounds Motion Entertainment decided that ANXIETY would make a more suitable follow-up to their second completed film, LADYBUGS (check out the trailer here) The script is now being lengthened, and casting is under way.
I will be a featured guest author at the Horrorfind Weekend Convention, August 11th-13th, in Hunt Valley, Maryland. This is a GREAT convention, with tons of celebrities, and thousands of fans. Hope to see some of you there!
I was recently interviewed for APEX digest, and will have a short story in their next issue, to be published in September. Apex will also be publishing GRIM TRIXTER, an anthology of amazing dark poetry by newcomer Brandy Schwan, for which I wrote the introduction for. Brandy is an amazingly talented writer, and will be one to watch in the near future. All Apex info can be found at their website.
My limited edition novella DESECRATION is selling well from Bloodletting Press. This will be a signed and numbered edition of only 400 copies. Get a copy before they're gone!

YOU HAVE TO HANG ON! FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 3 YEARS!
Jeff Strand, author of Pressure and Mandibles, has signed a 3-book deal with Delirium Books. Delirium acquires rights to publish his next 3 full-length non-collaborative comedic horror titles in limited edition. The yet-to-be-titled books will be released in 2007, 2008 and 2009.Earlier this year, Strand signed with Delirium for his next novel, The Sinister Mr. Corpse, which will go up for preorder in the next few months. This new book deal will include three titles in addition to Mr. Corpse.Strand has quickly gained a strong readership in the small press due to, in part, his talent of writing well-crafted, imaginative tales mixed with the perfect blend of humor and horror.

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON BLUNDER PART III
Someone said that Kevin Eastman's wife (Julie Strain) had a baby and that he'd left for Los Angeles (on Saturday) to be there for the birth. For some reason, I thought that person said Kevin SMITH.So when I met Kevin Eastman at the Heavy Metal booth and he told me that his son was born the day before, I said, "Whoa! What a coincidence! Kevin Smith's wife had a baby yesterday too!" Eastman was visibly impressed and I'm an idiot.

Husband and wife, Kevin Eastman (HEAVY METAL magazine, HEAVY METAL 2000) and Julie Strain (THE UNNAMEABLE II, HEAVY METAL 2000, BATTLE QUEEN 2020, ZOMBIEGEDDON) gave birth to a baby son on Saturday, July 22nd. Project Corrosion Goes Offline
There is so much and too much going on in Publisher/Writer, Shane Ryan Staley's life right now, so he's shutting down Project Corrosion as an online entity. The project will continue in book form. Reasons are many but the main ones involve the increase in his writing for publication and his family. His decision in no way affects his publishing company, Delirium Books. Shane has a long established reputation of taking great risks and new trajectories. We wish him the best of luck.

DAWN OF THE ANKLE BITERS
There have been many movies about vampires, but very few about vampire children! Fat Cat DVD (distributed by Tempe Video) is out to change all that on August 15 with the release of writer/director Jay Reel's excellent DAWN.
Dawn is a special little girl with special needs. Born from a human father and a vampire mother who died while giving birth, Dawn requires blood to survive. She and her father travel across the country, assuming new identities and never staying in one place for very long - until a small-town detective with psychic abilities pays extra attention to the murder of one of his townsfolk. DAWN is a fresh take on the vampire mythos, expertly written & directed by Jay Reel with stirring performances by a cast of newcomers you won't soon forget!
DAWN is a 2006 production which marks its DVD debut with an audio commentary from director Jay Reel, stars Ray Boucher & Kacie Young and cinematographer Mark Sawyer, a 17-minute gag reel and Tempe DVD trailers.

I haven't seen updated photos of Simon Bisely or Kevin Eastman in years. I mistook Kevin Eastman FOR Simon Bisely and addressed him as such. He participated in the charade for a bit, or perhaps the con was so nosiy he was only catching every other word and trying to be kind. I'm a moron.

WOLF'S TRAP 2nd PRINTING!
That's right, my Bram Stoker Award-nominated novel, WOLF'S TRAP (Leisure Books), is slated to go to a second printing in August. Needless to say, I'm thrilled to know it sold well enough to warrant going back to press, and I thank you all for your support and encouragement. If you haven't given this horror/thriller/noir crime hybrid novel of suspense a try yet, don't fret because the major distributors should still have some, and soon they'll have even more.
I've been busy this summer with drive-by signings, some mail campaigns, and lining up a few events with local booksellers. In early June, I signed copies of WOLF'S TRAP as a guest in the Twilight Tales booth at Chicago's Printers Row Book Fair. The event was a rousing success and I thank my friends at Twilight Tales for inviting me (See pictures from this event at my website, williamdgagliani.com).
Stay tuned for a Barnes & Noble author event coming this Halloween, and a few other surprises in between.
I'll be an Author Guest of Honor at JVL-CON in late August! I'll be doing two readings, some Q&As, and various panels.
I can now announce that the story "Mood Elevator," which is a joint effort with my friend Dave Benton, will appear in the anthology HOT BLOOD 13 (Kensington)! The book will be published October 2007.

HORROR DAY
There is a new MySpace page determined to designate Friday the 13th of October, 2006 as HORROR DAY. It's at http://www.myspace.com/horrorday.
What can you do? First, sign up, if you're on MySpace. Talk it up, and write about the idea if you blog. Tell your friends and family. Instruct folks to plan to buy a horror novel, rent a horror film, attend the book signing of a horror author, support a local indie store and generally raise Hell on Friday the 13th of October. Hey, and why not contact newspapers, television stations, friends and neighbors? Just talk about your love for the genre and let them know about FRIDAY THE 13th, HORROR DAY. Plan something cool, and SPREAD THE WORD! If everyone does a little something, an awful lot can happen.

W.D. GAGLIANI IS NEW AUTHOR GUEST OF HONOR AT JANESVILLE SCI-FI CONVENTION
JANESVILLE, Wisconsin Janesville's annual science-fiction/fantasy and gaming convention, JVL-CON has announced its new dates and two new guests for 2006. JVL-CON VIII will be August 25-27 at the Ramada Inn Janesville, 3431 Milton Avenue.
Last year, JVL-CON VII made local, national and international headlines when a passerby mistakenly interpreted an attendee in a Star Wars Stormtrooper costume for an armed robber.
This year's Guest of Honor is Milwaukee-based horror author W.D. Gagliani. His novel WOLF'S TRAP was a Bram Stoker Award Finalist in 2004, and it was just released in a new mass paperback edition from Leisure Books. His short stories have appeared in anthologies like Robert Bloch's Psychos, Wicked Karnival Halloween Horror, and The Asylum 2: The Violent Ward. His non-fiction has appeared in award-winning publications like Cemetery Dance, Hellnotes, Flesh and Blood, Crimespree, Science-Fiction Chronicle as well as BookPage, BookLovers, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. His website is williamdgagliani.com.
The other guest will be Williams Bay-based fantasy author/editor Janet Deaver-Pack. She has published over 25 short stories in such books as Gateways, A Constellation of Cats, The Mutant Files, and Historical Hauntings. Deaver-Pack has co-authored two role-playing game sourcebooks, and has co-edited fantasy anthologies, including Magic Tails, which was released in 2005 by DAW Books. Her non-fiction has appeared in various publications, including Scrye Magazine and At The Lake Magazine. Her website is janetpack.com.
Returning to JVL-CON will be members of the Southern Wisconsin Paranormal Research Group with programs on real-life paranormal activity. The group was featured last year in the documentary film, Ghost Hunting. Also returning will be the sci-fi comedy/music of The Great Luke Ski (also known as the Uber-Geek) and appearing for the first time is fellow comic-musician Eric Coleman. Both have been aired on the Dr. Demento Show.
Activities include panel discussions, writers' panels, role-playing games and game tournaments, and more. There will be a dealer's room, an art show, a video room, raffles and door prizes, a Saturday night costume contest and a charity auction to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. JVL-CON will continue its annual food drive: bring a canned food item and receive $1 off admission. Items will be donated to ECHO, a Janesville food pantry.
Weekend admission to JVL-CON VIII is $25 for adults, $12.50 for children 7-10 years old until August 1. Tickets will be $30 and $15 at the door. Children under six admitted free. Single-day, reduced-tickets are available. For room reservations, call the Ramada Inn at 608-756-2341 or 1-800-433-7787 and ask for the special JVL-CON VIII room block.

EYES EVERYWHERE 1 & 2
Let me come clean about a couple of things regarding the Eyes Everywhere Website Scavenger Hunt: Yes, I have the "eye" on one of my pages. No, it's not part of any other eyes you might see on a page; it's not hidden in a way that you'd have to pass your mouse over anything to make it appear. That would be cheating.
The page is archived, alphabetically indexed, and online - it always was.
Finally, I'm not giving any reviewers past or present any information (But I wrote reviews for you!) - so stop asking. But since I apparently made it SO hard (that fiendish laughter you hear is Matt and me) I will give you this hint:
It is at the very bottom of whatever page it is on and once you see it, you will likely say, "Oh, NOW I get it! Of course!"
Then again, maybe you'll just say, "Huh?"
From Matthew Warner
Huge news! The prestigious trade magazine Publishers Weekly has reviewed EYES EVERYWHERE in its July 17 issue, giving it four of my favorite adjectives: "disturbing . . . realistic . . . compelling and insightful."
Here's where you can read the whole review online: Publisher's Weekly.

WELL PRESERVED
Last year, Patrick Lestewka's limited edition, THE PRESERVE sold out in an amazingly short time. This year, Publisher David Barnett, of Necro Publications, is selling an unlimited trade paperback edition of Lestewka's hard-core horror novel.
In the summer of 1967, seven men, members of an elite combat unit, embarked on a covert operation in the jungles of Vietnam. Two died. The survivors were forever changed.
Twenty years later, the remaining unit members receive a letter from an anonymous benefactor, along with a check for $50,000 and a promise of more to follow—if they agree to one final mission. Their task is simple: journey to the wilds of northern Canada to track down and kill three escaped convicts. The convicts are starving and unarmed. Easy money. A cakewalk.
But they have no idea what lays in wait on the snow-topped tundras and in the dark forests of the frozen north. Waiting with sharp teeth and slitted eyes and an old score to settle.
They have no idea.
But they will.
Soon.
They have entered...

Gris also just completed, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" which will be available next year. He is now beginning to work on the long anticipated book with Neil Gaiman. We hope you are as excited as we are about this project.

SCREW THIS
Artist and writer Mike Mignola (HELLBOY), won the 2003 Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication with his most bizarre character called Screw-On Head. Screw-On Head is a ... well I'm not sure if he's a robot or what, but he serves President Lincoln during the Civil War; fights the supernatural enemies of the infant U.S. (as if we didn't have enough problems with then Superpowers, the French, the British, and the Spanish) with his faithful manservant, Mr. Groin, and his faithful dog, Mr. Dog. The comic is now the animated show and the first episode, with the vocal talents of David Hyde Pierce (ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES, WOLF, HELLBOY), Paul Giametti (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, PLANET OF THE APES [2001], PAYCHECK), and Molly Shannon (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LAWNMOWER MAN 2, SCARY MOVIE 4), is at scifi.com.

SPIDERMAN 3
Sony Pictures has now released the first series of posters for the 2007 release of SPIDERMAN 3. Horror fan favorite, Sam Raimi (EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD 2, ARMY OF DARKNESS, DARK MAN, THE GIFT, SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN 2) will be directing as usual as Sony Pictures isn't keen on stumbling like 20th Century Fox did by hiring Brett Ratner (RED DRAGON, X-MEN 3) to direct the first theatrically unprofitable XMEN in the franchise (the movie has yet to break even in the U.S., despite a huge May 26 release).
True, that Bryan Singer (APT PUPIL, X-MEN, X2) isn't doing so well with his butt-blistering-bladder-busting 154 freaking minute SUPERMAN RETURNS, but that may be due to the fact that Singer is such a well established fan of Marvel comics - not DC comics.
Bottom line is, when in doubt, go with the Horror director! Check out the official word on SPIDERMAN 3.
