AUGUST AUG! 31 From Tracy Wilcox Horns, Tail, & Rock & Roll Synopsis From M.Christian THE VERY BLOODY MARYS is a comic horror novel about vampires, ghouls, faeries, and the undead that move around after dark. Part chase, part gallows humor, part shivery excitement, this new story from the wildly imaginative M. Christian is funny, frightening, and very entertaining. For the last decade M.Christian has proven himself to be a true literary chameleon, establishing himself as a master of multi-orientation erotica with 200+ published stories in such anthologies as Best American Erotica, Best Gay Erotica, Best Lesbian Erotica, and so on and so forth as well as with the collections Dirty Words, Speaking Parts, The Bachelor Machine, and Filthy. Recently he has also shown himself to be a master of humor and suspense with such novels as Running Dry, The Very Bloody Marys, and the upcoming Me2.
AUG! 29 From Natalie Wicks Brilliant sorority girl Cami's experiment in insect intelligence goes awry, leaving giant, mutant insects hunting for food in a sorority house - and the only thing to eat is beautiful sorority sisters! The insect horrors increase in size while their source of food shrinks. The girls fight a savage hit and run battle with whatever weapons they can find. But the insects have more on their super-intelligent minds than food. Beautiful Josi becomes a host for more than sorority parties when she is infected with the next generation of mutant insects! Cami and a few others survive the night, leaving insect carnage throughout the house. But to deal with a bug problem, you have to kill them ALL ... NIGHT FANGS Two lesbian art teachers obsessed with eternal youth have managed to get Elizabeth Bathory's diary. Performing bloody rituals, they accidentally unleash an ancient evil that will devour their flesh and souls... This rare, raw and extremely violent independent feature revisits the vampire myth and presents an outrageous new take on the theme, taking audiences into a world of nightmare that resemble the style of an old Hammer classic and the gore and darkness of European cinema. A new-born cult classic. Max Parry wants to kill you. No, it's not that you've done anything to deserve it; he's simply trying to make a point. By day a wedding photographer, Max uses his video camera to moonlight as a serial killer and with the aid of a homeless assistant he documents his work in the form of a snuff video diary. Max grows increasingly determined to direct an intelligent film about murder, but bloodies the line between fiction and reality by actually snuffing out the victims himself. Max is a disturbingly charismatic assassin who confronts his audience with an intense exploration of the mind of a homicidal maniac and audience culpability with viewing violence as entertainment. When he senses distaste at the realism of his brutality, he poses the obvious question 'Why are you still watching?'. The answer is simple enough... you know you shouldn't be and that's exactly why you are. WEDDING SLASHERS Jenna dreams of finding the perfect man and getting married. But a series of unfortunate accidents takes the lives of every boy she’s ever loved. Until she falls for Alex and the wedding date is set. When the best man is murdered at the bachelor party and girls in the bridal party start to disappear, Jenna has a terrifying realization – the terrible secrets from her past have come back to torment her. CAST: Stars Richard Lynch (THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER, LITTLE NIKITA), Maria Ford (SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE III, THE WASP WOMAN), Ross Kelly (ARMY OF THE DEAD). All of these movies are rated R or have no rating WHAT! SO! EVER! HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAYS TO -

AUG! 27 QUICK BITESRobert Dunbar (author of THE PINES, THE SHORE, and the forthcoming MARTYRS & MONSTERS) will be the guest of honor at an online chat hosted by Delirium Books on Monday, August 27th from 9PM to 11PM EST. The author will discuss new works, old works, current works ... or anything else you care to ask about. Please join us. Also From Writer / Director Scott Goldberg -
Unfortunately, you may want to avoid doing any business either as a writer or reader with Prometheus Books of Amherst, New York. In times past, Prometheus Books set the standard in terms of literature and the publication of both fiction and non-fiction. Sadly, that no longer appears to be the case. Since 2006, Prometheus seems to have fraudulently altered James Randi's writing without his permission or knowledge. This intentional suppression of Randi's right to free speech; as well as the re-writing of history, demonstrates that Prometheus Books has seriously gone down the tubes. What's worse, since many of Prometheus non-fiction works are by dead scientists from Charles Darwin to Isaac Asimov (not up to defending themselves) there is no telling how much of their catalog has been "re-edited". For the full story on the problems magician and debunker James Randi has had with them, check out Randi.org/Apologies. From Jeff Thomas DAWN OF THE DEAD: UNRATED (2004), gets the HD-DVD treatment this week. Plus a 50 pack of Horror movies on a handful of DVDs. The DVD quality invariably matches the content. You can also get ROGER CORMAN COLLECTION of 10 movies on 3 DVDs: That plus some extras. There is also the BORIS KARLOFF COLLECTION featuring 11 of Karloff's movies on 3 DVDs. Yeah, gofrit. There are also 3 movies on one DVD in a series called The Signature Collection. Such signatures include Vincent Price, Lon Chaney Jr., and Christopher Lee. Though doncha kinda wonder how they got ol' Vincent and Lon to sign off on it? Hmmm. Television seasons include, DARK SHADOWS: THE BEGINNING COLLECTION 1 - The first six seasons of the original black and white gothic soap on 4 DVDs. GROWING UP CREEPY: CREEPY CREATURES VOL. 1 - Everything your little rugrat needs to know to affect a false sense of world-weary jaded outlook to grow up goth and intolerant of others. HEROES: First Season- A brain eating maniac is on the loose and people world wide are discovering that they have super powers. What the hell gives? The answer is more complex and fascinating than you might think. Available in both standard and HD-DVD. MASTERS OF HORROR: SEASON 1 BOX SET - Read our reviews for an overall look at the series. THE OUTER LIMITS: ORIGINAL SEASON 1 VOL. 2 - Do not attempt to adjust your set. We control the... Hey! What did I JUST tell you about attempting to adjust your set? RETURN TO HALLOWEEN TOWN: THE ULTIMATE SECRET EDITION - On, ultimately, only 1 DVD. SAMURAI JACK: 4th Season - Sent forward through time by an evil demon, Samurai Jack must return to his own time to stop the changes the demon has created in the future. SAMURAI JACK also comes in a box set featuring all four seasons. And in movies, ANTIBODIES: SPECIAL 2 DISC SET - From 2005 Germany comes this Horror Thriller about the capture of a man and his interrogation by a small town cop. Is the suspect crazy? Guilty? Both? And even if he is a killer, is he THE killer that the cop is looking for? THE BLOOD ROSE: UNCUT EURO VERSION - From 1969 France comes this Horror tale that also lays claim to being the first Horror tale to mix sex with Horror. Thousands of pro and amatuer filmmakers have tried and failed to bring two seemingly incongruous subjects together. Horrifying sex movies just aren't sexy and horrifying AT the same time. Yet some directors get it right; consider David Cronenberg's early catalog of Horror. So this movie, being the presumed first of its kind, might be worth a watch. FURIA - From 1999 France comes this futuristic dystopian thriller. HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN - From 1969 Japan comes this finger munching cannibal flick by Teruo Ishii. JUSTINE DE SADE - From 1972 comes this early torture porn flick. Not so much Horror as titilating sadism.Yer supposed to be appalled in a ribald way. RED ROAD - This Thriller won at Cannes, The Toronto FIlm Festival, and SUndance. Might be worth a look. SNAKE WOMAN'S CURSE - From 1968 Japan comes this tale. Yeah, even when yer a snake woman, life is still not all beer and peanuts. You could be a snake woman and STILL have to deal with a freakin' curse! Talk about yer bad luck! And in documentaries, BASIC HOW-TO HALLOWEEN MAKE-UPS - It is what it says it is. Fun ways to make your own Halloween costumes. And On Sunday - Writer Ira Levin (A KISS BEFORE DYING, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE STEPFORD WIVES, THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL, DEATHTRAP, SLIVER) is 79. Writer Drew Silver (THE VAMPIRE WITHIN: THE BEGINNING) is 31. His Jack Pierce efforts culminated in his long unavailable book, JACK PIERCE – THE MAN BEHIND THE MONSTERS. Like Dr. Frankenstein's theories themselves, the impossible is now possible in conjunction with CreateSpace, the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books. Sold out upon its first printing, the 48-page magazine-style book, with official photos and text about a legendary makeup artist, has at last returned in an on-demand capacity in both standard printed book and digital downloadable formats. JACK PIERCE – THE MAN BEHIND THE MONSTERS chronicles the career exploits of Universal's classic monster creator, Jack Pierce, who was with the studio during their horror heyday of 1928-1947. After freelancing in Hollywood’s earliest days as an actor, stuntman and assistant director, Pierce flourished in makeup in the 1910s and 1920s, first making himself into any variety of movie extras called for on fledgling studio lots. Then, from 1930-1947, Pierce created some of cinema history's most distinguishable icons of fright. Include Frankenstein's Monster, The Mummy, The Bride of Frankenstein, Ygor, The Wolf Man, and The Phantom of the Opera among his many classic creations. Pierce undeniably created the greatest screen characters in the careers of Boris Karloff, Béla Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Claude Rains, and many others of the period. Contained in this unique publication are detailed text and photos from every significant film of Pierce’s career, spanning the mid-1910s to the mid-1960s. THE LAST CODE UNEARTHED! They're breeding in the darkness, underground, feasting on blood and carrion. For centuries they’ve been sustained by offerings of ritualistic sacrifice, propagating the contagions to be unleashed on the world through savage stingers when the day of destiny finally arrives. Millions of sand flies, swarming through caverns riddled with human and animal remains, awaiting the vernal equinox when the serpent god Kukulcán will descend from the heavens to release them and deliver his vengeance upon those who drove his worshippers from their sacred land. The pandemic is at hand, for contained within each of the insects is a deadly combination of microorganisms capable of laying waste to the human immune system and ravaging the flesh, killing the cerebrum and leaving the victim at the mercy of the primitive hindbrain. Those contaminated become enraged creatures functioning on instinct alone, capable only of killing and spreading the disease. The sick now hunt the dwindling bands of survivors, who will soon learn that the only thing worse than dying, is becoming one of The Infected. Download a free excerpt of this book HERE. Also From Delirium, From writer David Jack Bell comes his first novel, THE CONDEMNED. The world is at war…the city is dying…and those left for dead within its walls have awakened… A terrorist attack on the water supply has left the city quarantined by the army and inhabited by the City People, the mindless living dead who rule the urban night. Jett Dormer works for the government. During the day he and his partner Vince drive a wrecker, collecting abandoned cars from the city’s dying core, scrap metal to feed the nation’s raging war machine. They finish their work before nightfall and return to home base outside the city and then to their wives and families. Until the day Jett and Vince are overrun by a horde of City People, and only Jett makes it out. Plagued by nightmares and wracked with guilt for having left his best friend behind, Jett returns to work, hoping to provide for his family. But his new partner, a wounded veteran known only as the Kid, won’t let Jett forget what happened to Vince. And he won’t let Jett forget that Vince might not be entirely dead. You’re never going to feel right, or be right, as long as he’s out there… Soon Jett and the Kid are on a mission to find Vince and bring whatever’s left of him home. But as their city raids grow bloodier, Jett finds himself increasingly under the mysterious influence of his new partner. And just as his murderous rage for the City People grows nearly out of control, he realizes things may not be exactly as they appear. The night, and those who control it—the City People—hold many secrets. Secrets that might just set Jett free…or destroy him and everything he holds dear. Download a free excerpt of this book HERE. AUG! 22 FRIGHT NIGHT FILM FESTIVAL 2007 This month I attended the Southeast's largest Juried Horror film festival: FRIGHT NIGHT FILM FESTIVAL, in Louisville, Kentucky. I had a film accepted and shown at this years festival, called VERGEL'S DREAM, a B&W short. I was honored that it got selected to be shown especially after I found out how many films were submitted that didn't make it. A first class event all the way, Ken Daniels, the founder and all around film lover, put on an excellent show for the fans and Independent filmmakers. This is only the second year and the turn out was huge; screening rooms were full; seminars were packed. and the vendor hall had great items for sale and even more interesting people to see. I even picked up an uncut fully restored copy of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST and MEET THE FEEBLES for my own collection. Continued at Fright Night Report. From Ed Peters HATCHET will be released theatrically nationwide by Anchor Bay Entertainment on Friday, September 7th. Join the HATCHET Army at and win prizes including a Grand Prize trip for 2 to Los Angeles to meet select cast members from the film, Blu-ray players and more! HAPPY

AUG! 21 From Philip Nutman The film, already hailed in Germany as "a masterpiece," is based on Ketchum’s cult novel, which was inspired by the terrible true crime involving teenager Sylvia Likens, that took place in 1964. Plans are underway for director Gregory Wilson, a Spike Lee protégé, to also attend, but were not confirmed at press time. Rumor has it, fellow supporting actress and cult movie darling Catherine Mary Stewart (NIGHT OF THE COMET, THE REAPER) may also be in attendance at Dragon*Con and could grace the screening with her presence. JACK KETCHUM’S THE GIRL NEXT DOOR (rated R) will screen Saturday, September 1st, at Cinefest, Georgia State University’s movie theater, in downtown Atlanta. Time TBA. A Q&A will follow the showing (a panel on the making of the film will be scheduled for earlier that day). (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A DRAGON*CON ONLY EVENT – you will only be granted admission to the screening if you have a valid Dragon*Con badge. No badge = no admission -- no exceptions! Transport will be provided by the convention between downtown hotels and the movie theater; details to be announced shortly.) "Dragon*Con is one of the most exciting multi-media conventions in the world, and we are thrilled that the film will be screened in Atlanta in conjunction with this major event," said producer Andrew van den Houten of New York-based production company Moderncine. "JACK KETCHUM'S THE GIRL NEXT DOOR has been invited to festivals all over the world, but we wanted to only screen the film at special venues, and Dragon*Con is one of the best." For more information on the movie, visit the official Website TheGirlNextDoorFilm.com and look for updates on the screening here at Dragon*Con.org.

There is gonna be a whole ton of great shit to do and there is going to be a truckload of celebrities to see, meet, greet, hear, pose and pay for the privilege! And remember as always that it is VERY uncool to try and shake the hand of a celebrity while they are trying to eat or use the restroom. Need I remind you that Feo Amante's Horror Thriller Never accepts or posts cell phone photos of a celebrity's peeing penis (Professional high quality photographs, yes, but cell phone photographs? NEVER!*). Now that I've made myself clear, these are some of the celebrities you can expect to see at Monster Mania this weekend! Monster Mania's Very Special Guests are Plus Catherine Hicks (CHILD'S PLAY) in her First! Con! Ever! (because who the hell would ever attend a 7th Heaven convention? Yuck!). What's more, we have a fine line-up of the Usual Suspects including, Reggie Bannister (PHANTASM [all]), Reggie is a MySpace friend. So visit him! Get all the info at MonsterMania. *I'm joking jackass! We don't want those freakin' photos!^ ^ And if you are about to write me and say, "Hey Feo! You called me a jackass and I ain't no jackass!" My reply is, "The shit you say! If you feel obligated to write me and tell me that you aren't a jackass, then by definition, you ARE a freakin' jackass!" Now stop using my bandwidth! TOMORROW'S DVDS, TODAY! Among the collections are TOHO TRIPLE FEATURE - a 3 DVD box set featuring THE MYSTERIANS, VARAN, and MATANGO. These are the movies hitting DVD tomorrow. BLOODHOUND: THE VAMPIRE GIGOLO VOL. 3 - I'm just a gigolo / biting lotsa ho's / people know the blood I'm drinking. Pretty weird, huh? Oh, did I mention its from Japan? BORDERLINE CULT - This movie is based on the true life ongoing torture, rape, and serial killings in the border town of Juarez Mexico that have claimed the lives of thousands of women; continues unabated and even worse to this day, and that no one seems interested in stopping. Yes, it could make for a really fascinating movie, but it was directed by Ulli Lommel. DANGEROUS ISOLATION - A computer scientist is kidnapped and her daughter threatened in this Thriller I never hoid of before. EXORCISM: SPECIAL EDITION - From 1975 comes this Paul Naschy flick that tried to cash in on the popularity of the far superior, THE EXORCIST. Directed by Juan Bosch (THE KILLER WORE GLOVES). HOUSE OF GAMES - This twisted little Mystery of 1987 was written and directed by David Mamet (HANNIBAL) with some writing help by Jonathon Katz. Stars Lindsay Crouse (THE ARRIVAL, IMPOSTOR, MR. BROOKS) and Joe Mantegna. THE LIVES OF OTHERS - A 2006 Geman film in the vein of Coppola's THE CONVERSATION and Tony Scott's ENEMY OF THE STATE. It's East Germany in the early 1980s and a government wiretapper, Captain Gerd Weisler, discovers that the people he was ordered to spy upon aren't really suspected dissidents: the woman is the object of his boss's desire. Disillusioned with his latest task, Gerd has a brief but crucial moment to falsely affect the outcome of his mission, with unforseen results. Fans of spy Thrillers should enjoy this one. It's also available in BLU-RAY. MALICIOUS - From 1995 comes this Molly Ringwald Thriller about a love obsessed killer. NIGHT OF THE SORCERERS: SPECIAL EDITION - Normally with a title like that, the movie is pure fantasy and we don't touch it here. But this flick is a fantasy dark enough to be labled Horror and what's more, it was directed by one of my favorite Horror Thriller directors of hideously bad film, Amando de Ossorio (TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD, WHEN THE SCREAMING STOPS). If one can soar above the firey depths to the very ceiling of hell, then Amando took truly bad cinema to depths of artistic heights. And of course, there are those of us who can appreciate it. Which is why someone went to all the trouble of making sure this Special Edition was remasterd in High Definition from the original print. PERFECT STRANGER - After a run of big budget flops, Halle Berry (THE XMEN, GOTHIKA) certainly didn't need another one in this year's Thriller. Bruce Willis (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE) is in this too with only a slightly better track record. Directed by James Foley (FEAR, THE CORRUPTER), it's also available in BLU-RAY and UMD for PSP. THE RISING DEAD - All the plot devices are here. Evil U.S. Government, Evil Scientists, bio-weapon that turns the dead into cannibal zombies, you know the drill. ROBOCOP: 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - A 2 disc set in a metal box yet! If by time or misfortune you've somehow missed this one, our review by Kelly Parks will explain why you need to see it, Tonight! SERENITY - Hell yeah it's Science Fiction! But how can we resist a movie from Joss Whedon of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL fame? Plus the sickening Horror of his Reavers, which feature prominently in the Firefly TV show and are front and center in the movie. Yeah, SERENITY belongs here! Writer Maria Alexander (Various poems, short stories and screenplays) is 85. Visit her at MySpace.com / Lady Euthanasia. Actor James Marsters (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER [TV], HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL [1999], STRANGE FREQUENCY 2, ANGEL [TV], SHADOW PUPPETS) is 45. And On Sunday - Mr. "Drama" himself, Actor Kevin Dillon (REMOTE CONTROL, THE BLOB [1988], TRUE CRIME, STAG, HIDDEN AGENDA, MISBEGOTTEN, OUT FOR BLOOD, POSEIDON [2006]) is 42. Writer Jenny Orosel (THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS, NONE OF THIS IS REAL) is 34. Visit Jenny at MySpace.com/ElleTopo. Horror writer John Passarella (WITHER, WITHER'S RAIN) who is 46. Actor Angus Scrimm (SWEET KILL, PHANTASM, THE LOST EMPIRE, PHANTASM II, TRANSYLVANIA TWIST, MINDWARP, SUBSPECIES, PHANTASM III, VAMPIRILLA, WISHMASTER, PHANTASM IV, INCIDENT ON AND OFF A MOUNTAIN ROAD) a happy 81st birthday! Look for Angus in his upcoming 2008 scheduled Horror Thrillers, HOLLYWOOD HORROR and I SELL THE DEAD. Actor Fred Dalton Thompson (NO WAY OUT, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, DIE HARD 2, CAPE FEAR, THUNDERHEART, IN THE LINE OF FIRE) is 65. And on Saturday - With 25 movies in a 28 year career, today's birthday girl is a quiet blip on the celebrity circuit - which is how she likes it. Happy Birthday to an actor who has made her mark in Thrillers, Mystery, and Suspense. Actor Madeline Stowe (REVENGE, THE TWO JAKES, CLOSET LAND, UNLAWFUL ENTRY, BLINK, CHINA MOON, TWELVE MONKEYS, THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER, IMPOSTOR, OCTANE) is 49.
