Alan Moore: Mindscape
From Michael Krause
THE MINDSCAPE OF ALAN MOORE

NEW YORK, NY – As Comic-Con 2008 set records for attendance this summer, much of the “buzz” centered on Zack Snyder’s eagerly anticipated, big screen adaptation of the Hugo Award-winning cult classic graphic novel “Watchmen,” authored by legendary comic book writer Alan Moore. Now, in the first and only documentary in which the heretofore reclusive, visionary and innovative Moore participates, his hugely-devoted fan base and the soon-to-be-indoctrinated can enter the mind of the world’s most famous comic book author, embarking on a fascinating and psychedelic journey through the life and career of the creator of WATCHMEN, FROM HELL, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, CONSTANTINE, and V FOR VENDETTA. THE MINDSCAPE OF ALAN MOORE makes its DVD debut on September 30, only from The Disinformation Company.

Moore – writer, artist and performer – is the arguably the world’s most critically acclaimed and widely admired creator of comic books and graphic novels, a true original responsible for many of the genre’s iconic creations. In THE MINDSCAPE OF ALAN MOORE, viewers are granted a portrait of the artist as contemporary shaman - someone with the power to transform consciousness by means of manipulating language, symbols and images. The award-winning film, from director DeZ Vylenz, leads the audience through Moore ’s world with the writer himself as guide, beginning with his childhood background, following the evolution of his career as he transformed the comics medium, through to his immersion in a magical worldview where science, spirituality and society are part of the same universe.

This exclusive 2-disc collector’s set, containing the extraordinary film on the life of this modern-day philosopher, artist and magician presented with English, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles, features over three hours of extras that further illuminate the masterful mind of Moore, including:

Spacer skull
Interviews with Melinda Gebbie (LOST GIRLS), Dave Gibbons (WATCHMEN), David Lloyd (V FOR VENDETTA), Kevin O’Neill (LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) and Jose Villarubia (PROMETHIA and MIRROR OF LOVE)

Recipient of the Special Recognition Award for Creative Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking at the San Francisco World Film Festival, THE MINDSCAPE OF ALAN MOORE has also been featured at film festivals worldwide including Comica at the ICA Cinema London, Copenhagen International Film Festival, Belfast International Film Festival, San Diego Comic-Con Film Fest, Comicdom Con Athens and Caption Oxford.

As excitement continues to build for WATCHMEN (scheduled for release in March ’09) – the publisher just put an additional 300,00 copies in print following the release of the trailer and Comic-Con – get an inside glimpse inside the psychedelic worldview of one of the world’s most visionary and creative minds with THE MINDSCAPE OF ALAN MOORE.

MGM HAS MANY MOORE

LOS ANGELES, CA August 19, 2008 - Seizing an opportunity to leverage the current wave of popularity and notoriety surrounding the new digital graphic novel sensation, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE, MGM Domestic Television Distribution has acquired an option to develop the Factory Publishing property as a possible television series. The announcement was made today by Chris Ottinger, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Television, MGM.

"THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is an exciting digital graphic novel that's creating quite a sensation abroad," said Ottinger in announcing MGM's option of the property. "We see this as a great concept that will make an exciting series for worldwide audiences.”

"MGM is a great place for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE," said Howard Webster, creator, producer and director of the project for Factory Publishing in association with Triumph Motorcycles. "There has never been a black British action hero before and what appealed to me was that MGM understood this from the outset. JONAS MOORE is sophisticated, educated, tough and uber-cool. He represents the next generation of intelligent action heroes of international sci-fi drama."

Jonas Moore
THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE was written, produced and directed by Howard Webster. Ruth Vitale of The Film Collective brought the project to MGM. She was instrumental in developing the television pitch with Webster. She is attached as an Executive Producer to the project, having worked with Webster for the last four years on Factory Magazine.

Nominated at MIPCOM 2007's Mobile and Internet TV Awards in the Best Short Form Mobile and Internet Drama category and an official honoree at this year's Webby Awards, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is a trilogy of second-generation graphic novels, which live online and are specifically designed for iPod and PC download.

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is set in a time where the British Empire has never ended and America is just one of thousands of virtual worlds hosted on a vast global game network. When Jonas Moore (portrayed online by British film and TV star Colin Salmon: RESIDENT EVIL, ALIENS VS PREDATOR), a character personally created by the network's founder, becomes self-aware he is tagged by the network as a virus and goes on the run. As he moves from one artificial game world to the next, his knowledge of the games and the real-world gamers spreads like a virus to the other game characters, freaks, creatures and monsters who live as slaves within the network - precipitating a revolution and fight for freedom against the murderously addicted real-world gamers. Worlds Apart lead singer Steve Hart wrote the score for the production and also stars in the online version.

Combining comic book illustration with 3D animation, live action photography, newsreel archival footage, and an original music score, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE marks a revolution in online branded entertainment and user-generated content. Pushing the boundaries of the graphic novel genre, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE engages fans by inviting them to become part of the journey by downloading the JONAS MOORE digital elements and animating their own stories or creating comic book adventures for JONAS MOORE. Garage bands and musicians all over the world are also invited to strip out the music and send in their own soundtracks. The best fan-generated comic books, animations and soundtracks will be posted at jonasmoore.com when the online digital comic book series goes live later this year.

Previews for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE digital graphic novel can be seen at JonasMoore.com and Factory-Publishing.com.

Madame Mirage artist Kenneth Rocafort tackles the Cyberforce beauty
LOS ANGELES, Calif., August 18, 2008 – Top Cow Productions Inc. unveiled today a second cover for the upcoming launch of the Cyblade solo series, drawn by renowned Madame Mirage artist Kenneth Rocafort. The series, written by Joshua Hale Fialkov (Elk’s Run, Pilot Season: Alibi) and drawn by Rick Mays (New Avengers), is scheduled to debut in October after becoming one of last year’s winners of Top Cow’s inaugural Pilot Season initiative.

Rocafort, a self-professed fan of Cyberforce, the superpowered team created by Marc Silvestri of which Cyblade is a member, was thrilled when he was offered this assignment.
“It is my dream someday to draw a Cyberforce series and hopefully I will get to do it,” he said from his home in Puerto Rico. “But something like this cover will do for now!”

The other cover to Cyblade #1 is drawn by interior artist Mays. Both will be available when the issue debuts in October.

BLURAY-
MONSTER, PROM NIGHT [2008], THE SCORPION KING 2: RISE OF A WARRIOR, TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES

And these are the movies -

EVIL AWAKENING - An axe wieldling mass murderer who terrorized a small town, up and does it again.

PROM NIGHT [2008] (also in an UNRATED version) - If there's one positive thing I can say about this movie, its about the poster. That was one great movie poster! I'm not being flip here either. That poster said it all.

RESTRAINT - A crime couple escape to their hideout with a hostage in tow. The best thing for them, to insure their safety, is to kill their hostage. But murder steps over their line. Can either of them actually do what's in both of their best interests or can they show restraint?

THE RIDDLE - In this supernatural mystery, the secret to solving a string of modern day homicides lies in solving a crime committed a century before. Stars Vinnie Jones (XMEN 3).

THE SMALL BACKROOM - A moody Suspense Mystery about a psychologically disturbed research scientist and military bomb-disposal expert. Right after WWII, such a person, despite all of his book knowledge of explosives, really only became a bomb-disposal expert in one way: he didn't get blown up. For such experts in post WWII England, such a career was stressfully tense and gave one over to high-strung mood swings. Could you blame them? This film takes you inside the mind of one such man as he tries to hold on to his sanity, knowing that what he does will save the lives of thousands.

THINGS YOU DON'T TELL - A psychological thriller about three different liars who all get caught up in each other's deceits. Their lies trapped them, but telling the truth now could kill them.

THE UNSEEN - From 1980 comes this cool little Horror Thriller that really isn't too bad. A television crew head out to the town of Solvange, California to cover the annual Danish Festival. Sounds harmelss enough, right? But its a popular festival, it attracts a lot of out-of-towners, and the TV crew have no place to stay thanks to a local hotel mix-up. No worries though, a local resident tells them that they can stay at her place. These locals are a friendly bunch! And its such a nice house. In fact, everything is pretty sweet except for that odd noise that comes from the basement. I wonder what is in that basement? Stars Barbara Bach (LA TARANTOLA DAL VENTRE NERO, LA CORTA NOTTE DELLE BOMBOLE DE VETRO, L' ISOLA DEGLI UOMINI PESCE, L' UMANOIDE, IL FIUME DEL GRANDE CAIMANO) and Stephen Furst (SILENT RAGE) and directed by Danny Steinmann (SAVAGE STREETS, FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING).

THE WIZARD OF GORE [2008] - Under the Dimension Exteme banner, this DTV remake stars Crispin Glover (WILLARD), Bijou Philips (OCTANE, VENOM), Brad Dourif (CHILD'S PLAY [all], THE EXORCIST III, DEATH MACHINE, ALIEN: RESURRECTION, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, PULSE, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN), Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR [all], FROM BEYOND, THE FRIGHTENERS, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, THE ATTIC EXPEDITIONS, FEARDOTCOM, VOODOO MOON, ABOMINABLE, STUCK) and the Suicide Girls.

Dance of the Dead
DANCE OF THE DEAD GOT LEGS!
When I posted my exclusive Interview with Director Gregg Bishop (THE OTHER SIDE) earlier this week, I mentioned the huge buzz surrounding his movie DANCE OF THE DEAD. Well now that buzz is becoming a roar and Lionsgate looks like its about to make their biggest mistake since they pushed to have SAW go direct to video (lucky for them, the late producer, Gregg Hoffman, pushed back, and SAW became one of only two dependable cashcows for the company). Think about it: Where would Lionsgate be if it wasn't for SAW?

This is the biggest audience anticipation buzz I've seen since THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.

The buzz is not only going out on Horror Thriller sites, but on movies sites as well!

Blood Sucking Cinema
From Ed Peters
BLOODSUCKING CINEMA

Making its Mark on DVD September 23 Burbank, CA – They are the sexy embodiment of immortality. Their literal lust for life rivals the antics of today’s rockstars. The story of the vampire has ravished humanity for thousands of years. But, in particular, evil, erotic and insatiable, vampires have stalked our dreams – especially with our eyes wide open in a darkened theater. The vampire has been a fixture of the cinematic landscape, from the silent era to today’s CGI blockbusters. What is the continuing fascination? The Starz Originals documentary BLOODSUCKING CINEMA, goes a long way to toward explaining this attraction.

Bloodsucking Cinema dips into the bloody archives to examine the breadth of vampire cinema classics, from the early Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee classic portrayals to contemporary visions including Bram Stoker’s DRACULA, Van Helsing, UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION, Interview with the Vampire, THE LOST BOYS, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, BloodRayne and John Carpenter’s Vampires.

Bloodsucking Cinema features interviews with such vampire “experts” as directors John Carpenter (VAMPIRES), Len Wiseman (UNDERWORLD), John Landis (INNOCENT BLOOD) and Joel Schumacher (THE LOST BOYS), actors Kristanna Loken (BloodRayne) and Stuart Townsend (QUEEN OF THE DAMNED), writers Marv Wolfman and David Goyer (BLADE), as well as one of the last interviews with Oscar®-winning special effects wizard Stan Winston (INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE). Critics Leonard Maltin and Harry Knowles also provide insights into the movies’ eternal love affair with the vampire. The documentary is hosted by renowned film critic Richard Roeper.

Cloaked in black, shunning the day, debonair, thirsting for the life source of his victims, the vampire is a symbol of danger and degeneracy. Bloodsucking Cinema tells how the many versions of his terrifying story made it to film, from Count Dracula rising from his coffin, to beautiful women seducing their victims in the dark.
Jake's Wake
From Erin Galloway
DAMN SKIPPY

I have some exciting horror thriller news to share. Legendary authors John Skipp and Cody Goodfellow have released a special cinematic trailer to promote their January novel, JAKE’S WAKE. It’s a shocking, apocalyptic tale of Judgment Day by the genre’s new literary supergroup, Skipp & Goodfellow.

The terrifying trailer was directed by Skipp, who’s also slated to direct the feature film of JAKE’S WAKE, now in pre-production. Check out the Novel Trailer.

JAKE’S WAKE will be in stores on December 30, 2008. Here are the details:

Pastor Jake promised his followers everlasting life … he just didn’t say what kind. So when the small-town televangelist and con man climbs out of his coffin at his own wake, it becomes Judgment Day for everyone gathered to mourn—or celebrate—his death. Jake is back, in the rotting flesh, filled with anger and vengeance. And accompanied by demons even more frightening than himself. What follows is a long night of endless terror, a blood-drenched rampage by the man not even death could stop.

Horror icon John Skipp launched his career as half of the New York Times bestselling partnership Skipp and Spector in 1986. What followed was an incredible string of bestselling novels that introduced the genre of splatterpunk and changed the face of horror thriller fiction forever. Then, in the mid-90s Skipp seemingly disappeared from the horror scene, leaving millions of fans to await the return of this horror godfather.

Now he’s teamed up with brilliant newcomer Cody Goodfellow (author of the cult Lovecraftian epics RADIANT DAWN and RAVENOUS DUSK), to map out the new frontier of fear, and instigate a whole new reign of terror for the horror thriller-loving reader.
