What happens when a young L.A. junkie is abducted by Aliens...and he gets them hooked on drugs? WASTED SPACE is the next genre project from 3MAC STUDIOS - the wildly creative team who brought you the deconstructed slasher film RED VELVET starring Henry Thomas and Kelli Garner.
3MAC creative director, Joe Moe, has written and will direct his dark, urban comedy. Like its predecessor, RED VELVET, WASTED SPACE will be a hyper-creative production designed from the ground up. Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy icon Forrest J Ackerman has commented, "I think Wasted Space will be an instant cult classic!" Writer/director Joe Moe says, "We intend this movie to be highly crafted and unapologetic for its entertainment value.
Wasted Space will offer new twists on classic Sci-Fi elements as well as creepy and delightful images. Also, as Wasted Space is populated by a youthful, multi-ethnic cast reflecting the melting pot of the city, we look forward to discovering fresh talent."

THE CG BUGS ARE BACK IN TOWN

Digital FX Supervisor Roger Nall for STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER had the animators roto over the original Phil Tippett animations to match them exactly.
It's been 11 years since director Paul Verhoeven (ROBOCOP, TOTAL RECALL, STARSHIP TROOPERS) rocked sci-fi cinema with his cheesy, gory take on outer space warfare against a species of brutal, gigantic, human-crunching "bugs." The franchise never left the consciousness with direct-to-DVD releases and the latest is Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. It brings back Casper Van Dien (STARSHIP TROOPERS, SLEEPY HOLLOW, THE OMEGA CODE) as a more mature Johnny Rico still battling the "bug" infestation which has only gotten worse.

HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY TO HOST PHANTASM

World Mausoleum Premiere! In celebration of Anchor Bay’s new Phantasm IV: Oblivion DVD release later this month, Don Coscarelli’s horror classic, the original PHANTASM will have its “World Mausoleum Premiere” at the legendary Hollywood Forever Cemetery, as part of Cinespia’s “Summer Screenings” series at the famed resting place for Hollywood’s elite.
In 1979, horror fans all over the world witnessed a new kind of horror film with the release of Don Coscarelli’s PHANTASM. Now, as it nears its thirtieth anniversary, Phantasm will finally receive a “World Masoleum Premiere” in the most appropriate of venues: an actual cemetery! As part of their annual outdoor “Summer Screenings” series, Cinespia will present the original Phantasm – projected on the wall of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery mausoleum. The film’s stars Angus “The Tall Man” Scrimm, Reggie “Ice Cream Man” Bannister, and Kat “Lady in Lavender” Lester will be present. Plus, writer/director Don Coscarelli will be on hand to introduce the screening and reminisce about the making of what is now considered one of the seminal horror films of the last century.
Lucky fans can win pre-release copies of Phantasm IV: Oblivion! Stars Angus Scrimm, Reggie Bannister, Kat Lester and Writer/Director Don Coscarelli will Introduce Screening. Fans will have chance to Win Two Signed Copies of Phantasm IV: Oblivion DVD.

FLOWERS FOR YOUR BUNKER
Blind Filmmaker's Feature To Debut As Series Pilot For European Cable Network LOS ANGELES, CA-Crime Pays, Inc. founder and president Hart D. Fisher has announced that longtime collaborator Joseph M. Monks' debut feature, THE BUNKER, will air as the pilot episode of Fisher's FLOWERS ON THE RAZORWIRE television series for the Indiepix cable channel. Beginning this fall, Indiepix will broadcast the new fright showcase to 120 million households in 17 countries.
The distribution agreement with Carol Angela Davis, Inc. and Global Broadcasting & Syndication Inc., calls for 22 episodes of Flowers on the Razorwire and other horror-related programming. Production on the series is already underway, based on the 1990s comic book of the same name.
"This television distribution agreement is a major leap forward for independent American horror creators, allowing them to find a vast untapped audience for their work. I'm looking forward to bringing quality horror product to European audiences, and I'm proud to begin that with The Bunker," says Fisher.
Monks, an independent comics groundbreaker for the past two decades, lost his eyesight in 2002 after a long battle with diabetic retinopathy. Faced with life-changing circumstances, Monks stunned the comic book world by returning to a largely-visual medium, garnering rave reviews for his work on Zacherley's Midnight Terrors, working with the legendary American horror host. But a return to the genre he enjoyed so much wasn't nearly the challenge he undertook next--becoming the world's first blind feature film director.
"Having written the screenplay for the first Flowers on the Razorwire episode, I was very familiar with the way Hart envisioned a full-on TV series," says Monks. "So when I wrote The Bunker, I saw it taking the series to its natural next-plateau, which was a feature. Like the Tales from the Crypt: Demon Night film, it made all the sense in the world. Helming it myself might not have, but directing it was a challenge too good to pass up."
While the film initially drew interest as a curiosity, it's turned heads after several screenings, receiving praise from the likes of FANGORIA's Tom Carnell, Rue Morgue, The Hacker's Source and the Miami Herald, among others. A selection of the 2007 Halloween Horror Picture Show film festival, Monks is happy that the film has been able to stand on its own.
"The curiosity angle is nice, but now that the film is making the rounds as we look for a distribution deal and the reception it's gotten has been so positive, this opportunity to showcase it to such a large audience is more than I could have hoped for. I'm excited about working with Hart on other episodes for the series. We've been in the indie trenches together a long time, so what better way to make a splash than on Indiepix?"
Broadcasting executive and founder Carol Davis says, "As we build and brand our thematic channels we are very careful about the companies we allow to program content. Hart D. Fisher presents very unique products that are naturals for compelling content."

The official website for THE FIXER, the TV series based on the critically-acclaimed Lawson Vampire novels by Jon F. Merz, goes live this morning at TheFixer.tv, and with it, all things Lawson are back better than ever before. Merz, the show's creator under his New Ronin Productions banner, describes the show as "James Bond with fangs. THE FIXER tells the story of Lawson, a cynical, jaded part cop/spy/commando divinely chosen from birth to help protect the Balance - the line separating humanity and the race of living vampires that has evolved in secret alongside humans over thousands of years. It's got crime, espionage, and magic - what more could you ask for?"
While vampire novels and shows based on them are nothing new, the vampires in the world of THE FIXER are *not* undead. They're members of a separately evolving race that has existed in secret carefully intermingled with humans who, for the most part, have no idea they exist.
The website launch is just the start of a rebirth for Lawson. Along with the TV series, all four original novels will soon be re-released in along with a brand new 5th adventure (with three more to follow). Audio books, comics, and more are also planned.
"For fans of the novels, this is a long time coming," says Merz. "And the TV series gives me a broader canvas to play with. We'll be introducing new characters along with the old favorites."
Among the new characters is a vigilante who operates outside the purview of the vampire governing body, the Council. For Diane Matson, cast to play the enigmatic character Rogue, the role presents a great opportunity. "What appeals most to me is the fact that she gets to be this thorn in Lawson's side. And she likes to play with sharp toys." Matson first met Merz on Facebook and later discovered that he was the author of one of her recent favorite short stories, "Prisoner 392," which appeared in the famed Borderlands 5 anthology. "I have a weakness for great writers and after Jon saw my demo reel, we finalized plans for me to play Rogue. I'm incredibly excited about the show and my part in it."
Along with extensive information about the world of Lawson, the website will also have video clips, the debut of the theme song composed by Boston musician [munk] whose work has previously appeared on TV shows like NCIS, The Sopranos, and many more, and frequently updated information on the show and novel re-releases. BERSERKER
Screenwriter Rick Loverd weaves a tale of superheroes, Norse mythology and bone-crushing action
LOS ANGELES, Calif., August 4, 2008 – Top Cow Productions Inc. announced at San Diego Comic-Con they will partner with Milo Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff of DiVide Pictures to publish Berserker, a new comic book series created by Rick Loverd.
“Berserker is about people discovering they have superhuman ancient Norse powers as they’re pulled into an underground war that’s been raging for a thousand years,” explained Loverd. But the writer pointed out there are bigger themes. “It’s about people dealing with all the curves the world throws, accepting yourself,” he said. “It’s about not feeling helpless in the face of new challenges and, when someone builds a wall in front of you, smashing right through it with your bare hands. And, of course, it’s about bone-popping bloodlust, spine-crushing action, and saving the world from total destruction!”

Since Ventimiglia and Cundiff are also developing the comic book series Rest with Devil’s Due Publishing, when they saw Berserker, they recognized right away its potential for the four-color medium.
“We just wanted to see the story come to life,” declared Ventimiglia, star of the hit NBC series “Heroes,” whose third season starts in September. “Loverd’s script was actually a television pilot and our first comment was, ‘Wow! This is way too edgy for TV,’ so we thought, ‘What better medium than comics?’”
Loverd is thrilled Berserker is moving forward. “I think the best thing a young writer could possibly do is work with a company like DiVide,” he expressed. “They’re all about helping you realize your creative vision. They’re young, they’re smart, and they’re hungry. They know what it means to put out a great book and they won’t be satisfied with anything less.”
For their part, DiVide Pictures needed to find the right publisher to work with for Berserker. Since they were already working with Devil’s Due on Rest, they sought out Top Cow.
“Top Cow is a company that is known for good art and great stories and to be partnered with them on Berserker seemed like the right fit,” said Cundiff, who noted they plan to develop the property into something more, perhaps a film.
“We want to see people wearing Berserker T-shirts, maybe carrying lunchboxes,” smiled Cundiff. “Until then, we are looking to make a kick-ass book.”
“Berserker is one of those unique properties, which on the surface may seem familiar but quickly takes you on a series of unexpected twists and turns, and grabbed our attention right away,” described Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik. “Rick Loverd’s world of dark, intense violence paired with rich characters grounded in the real world fits perfectly with Top Cow. And of course, we’re thrilled to have Milo and Russ at DiVide Pictures as partners on this property as they bring an endless amount of enthusiasm and ideas to the table.”
The Berserker comic book is currently in development and will debut in 2009.
