KELLY'S OPTION
Veteran feoamante.com reviewer, Kelly Parks, has sold the option to his award winning screenplay, HOWARD'S CROSS. And the group who took it is Turn Up The Heat Productions, which puts Colin Cunningham in the driver's seat as Director.
Colin's short film, CENTIGRADE, has been wowing audiences aross the globe. It swept the Leo Awards, won Best Narrative Short at Cinequest, and made Official Selection at Cannes and Festival Des Films Du Monde. Colin is looking to make his first feature film and Kelly's Horror Thriller screenplay just might be it.
HOWARD'S CROSS made the semi-finals at the 2007 Nicholl Fellowship and won the 2006 International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival.

WELL, WELL, WELL
We've covered Horror Thriller writer, Gord Rollo, a few times here with reviews of his chapbook WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS (w/Gene O'Neill) and his collection, UNNATURAL SELECTION.
So today I get a review copy of Rollo's novel, CRIMSON. CRIMSON was published a few years back in small press but will be released in March of 2009 by Leisure Books.
That's all well and good for Gord Rollo and more power to him. But it was already reviewed here by feoamante.com alumni Jimmy Z (now of Horror-Web.com).
But "Ah..." when I look on the back of the novel, I see this blurb,
"Those first three pages were the most intense prologue I have ever read. The deep red glow of Crimson makes other books seem pale by comparison. Five out of Five stars."

I like when that happens, and because we're all hard-core Horror Thriller enthusiasts here at feoamante.com, we don't make with the glowing reviews that often so the blurb thing doesn't happen that much!

OH BRAD!
It's been three years since I decided to get serious about being a screenwriter and finished writing my first screenplay. Since then I've managed to get some notice by doing well in a variety of contests (including making the semi-finals of the Nicholl Fellowship and winning the International Horror & Sci-Fi Screenplay Competition), which always feels nice. But sometimes it feels really nice.
I wrote a short horror script called BAIT, mostly because my friend Vernon wanted to make a short film. I felt pretty happy with the script and eagerly showed it to Vernon, assuming he'd be happy too. He was not.
Vernon liked the script but he hated the ending. I showed the script to a few more people (including Feo) and they all had the same reaction: liked the script, hated the ending.

The problem was, I LOVED the ending and I really didn't want to change it. So I didn't, which resulted in Vernon not making the short film and Feo making fun of me.
I wasn't seeking vindication or anything when I entered "Bait" in the Golden Brad* Screenplay Competition. It's just what I do when I finish a script - I enter it in contests.
I'm sure you can see where this is going. BAIT got 2nd place, which means I won the Silver Brad Award. Sweet vindication. Here's a picture of the actual trophy, placed next to the plaque I received when I won the International Horror & Sci-Fi screenplay competition for HOWARD'S CROSS.
Did any of this help me get an actual career as a screenwriter? I think so but I can't talk about that just yet. I'll let you know as soon as I can.

GALE ANNE HURD TO PRODUCE GEARHEAD
LOS ANGELES, November 19, 2008 – Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Motion Pictures has closed a deal for the film rights to produce the graphic novel GEARHEAD which Hurd will produce. GEARHEAD was created by Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon and published by Arcana Comics.
In GEARHEAD, a young woman teams up with a group of rebels to fight the corrupt superheroes who govern the United States. She must rise to the challenge of her destiny and become GEARHEAD.
“We are excited to bring GEARHEAD to life. It’s a terrific character-driven story set in a unique and compelling world,” said Hurd.
“To work with Gale on Gearhead is simply fantastic. We couldn’t have found a better partner.”, Arcana Studio’s Sean O’Reilly commented.
Gale Anne Hurd and Valhalla Motion Pictures most recently produced the blockbuster feature The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Studios which was released by Universal Pictures this summer.
