SPAWN #185's COMPLETELY SELLS OUT
31 October 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - The comic book event of the season started off with a bang as SPAWN's new direction, courtesy of Image Founders Todd McFarlane & Whilce Portacio, resulted in an immediate distribution-level sell-out!
"Obviously it's good news to have the initial issue sell out so quickly, but now the bigger task is to continue that momentum in the issues going forward," Spawn creator Todd McFarlane said. "As a reminder, the first few issues will be a lot of setup before we kick this into high gear. Each issue isn't meant to be its own stand-alone book."
As if SPAWN #185's cataclysmic and unforgettable opening wasn't enough, readers were also introduced to the awakening of the mysterious and comatose Patient 47. In the pages that followed, secrets boiled to the surface and lives were lost, creating one of the greatest mysteries to hit the SPAWN mythos. While limited amounts of the first printing may still be available at your local comic book store, a second printing will hit stands soon to meet the additional demand.
SPAWN #185 2nd ptg., a 32-page full color comic book, will be available in stores soon. To hear Todd McFarlane's pod cast on the Spawn 185 redirection and for more Spawn Comic Book information visit Endgame.Spawn.com. |

THE ALPHABET KILLER
Tom Malloy, writer/producer/co-star of the upcoming thriller THE ALPHABET KILLER, will conduct a Q&A at a special pre-release screening on Thursday, November 6th at 7:20pm at the Pittsford Plaza Cinemas 9 in Rochester, NY in advance of the film's regular theatrical engagement starting Friday, November 7th. Tom, a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, will be flying in especially for this event.
In addition, the exclusive Los Angeles theatrical engagement for THE ALPHABET KILLER will be at the Laemmle's Monica 4-plex Theaters in Santa Monica starting Friday, November 14th. An exclusive New York theatrical engagement will be announced shortly.
Directed by Rob Schmidt (WRONG TURN, MASTERS OF HORROR: RIGHT TO DIE) and featuring an all-star cast including Eliza Dushku (WRONG TURN), Cary Elwes (SAW), and Oscar®-winner Timothy Hutton (THE DARK HALF), THE ALPHABET KILLER is a gripping psychological thriller loosely based on the serial murders that shocked the citizens of Rochester, New York in the early 1970s. |

FEO AMANTE'S TOP TEN
From time to time folks I meet folks who say they've never been to my website and ask, "How is it that I've never heard of you?"
It's a weird question because I end up saying, "Dude! I've never met you in my life. How is it that you even exist?"
If my FeoFans out there find themselves being asked similar questions, then here's the solution. This works especially if your interrogator has a handy Treo, Blackberry, iPhone or other some such means to get on the Internet right there in front of you.
Feo Amante covers Horror Thriller Mystery, and Suspense in all of its fictional forms. I and my writers cover books, comic books, movies, music, and more. So have them do a search on the words,
Horror Thriller.
When they ask what search engine, tell them
"ANY search engine!"
Because feoamante.com is the No.1 Horror Thriller website in the world according to the top 12 search engines.
What's that? There is no other detectable Internet in the Galaxy? Then feoamante.com is possibly the No. 1 Horror Thriller website in the freaking Galaxy!
That's not enough for them? Have them do a search on the words
Top Ten Scary Movies
(or instead of the word "ten", the number 10, no matter)
Whether or not its Yahoo, Live, doesn't matter. I'm on Google's top five whether you write
Top ten scary movies, top 10 scary movies, or even just top ten scary.
Maybe those terms aren't popular enough? Maybe they want a really popular search term like, say,
Lord of the Rings sequels
Fine then, have them Google that term.
Have them Yahoo it. Have them Live it.
Social Conscience? Yeah, I have one. Have them do a search on Racial Cliche or Science Moment.
And when they ask what makes feoamante.com so popular, tell them its because of people like you. So on this Halloween day, I want to give a big THANK YOU too all of you who come to visit! As always, let me know if there is something you want to see!

SPIRIT OF RADIO
From the cramped bowels of a dimly lit Mexican radio station, Ghost Radio is beamed onto the airwaves. More than a call-in show to tell scary stories about vampires and poltergeists, Ghost Radio is a sanctuary for those sleepless denizens of the night, lost half way between this world and the next.
Joaquin, the hip, melancholy host sits deep in a fog of cigarette smoke, fielding calls from believers and detractors alike. He is joined in the booth by his darkly beautiful girlfriend, Alondra, and his engineer, Watts. Before long, a radio conglomerate offers to syndicate their cult show in the U.S., and Ghost Radio becomes a national hit but Joaquin wasn’t remotely prepared for the consequences of his success.
A former punk rocker, Joaquin has had two devastating near-death experiences—accidents of shocking and horrific proportions. He emerged the sole survivor after these events, walking away even as his parents and later, his best friend and cohort in music and mischief, Gabriel, perished. Though a charismatic host, he remains a skeptic even as he begins to notice a curious and troubling phenomenon. Joaquin feels himself drawn further and further into the terrifying stories he solicits on the radio. Slowly he loses control over his circumstances, and finds himself unable to distinguish between the real world and the world populated by the nightmares on Ghost Radio. He is not alone, and the voices of the dead begin to drift onto the airwaves to tragic results.
Joaquin suspects that someone from his past with a grudge to pay is the agent forcing him to confront his own mortality, save that which is most precious to him, and repair the crumbling wall between the living and the dead.
In GHOST RADIO, Leopoldo Gout unleashes a haunting new voice to tell Joaquin’s story. Gout intersperses his intelligent ghost story-telling with stunning graphic illustrations to open each chapter, creating a visual reality to a supernatural tale. This thrilling first novel opens a doorway into the paranormal and blurs the lines between this world and the next.
Leopoldo Gout is a producer, graphic novelist, writer, composer, and director. He is currently producing an animated film with NBC and Curious Pictures. He lives in New York City. This is his first novel. |

From Omaha Perez
APE WITH OMAHA
It's time once again for my favorite convention, A.P.E., the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco. I can unreservedly recommend this one to everyone, comics fan or not. The focus at this convention is on independent publishers. Virtually every subject matter you can think of is covered there. Super hero comics are almost non-existent and no matter what your interest, you're likely to find some comics you'll enjoy. Every year I'm blown away by how much great stuff is there.
I will be promoting HOLMES at the Ait/Planet Lar, tables 434 & 435. I plan on being there Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd for the core hours of 12 - 5 both days. If you don't see me at the table, feel free to ask for me.
Also, for the first time I will be bringing select BODHISATTVA and HOLMES original pages to sell, including a few scratchboard pieces.
HOLMES - Omaha Perez's vicious skewering of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic literary creations is finally collected! This version of the Sherlock Holmes mythos expands on Dr. Watson's revelation that Holmes was a narcotics addict. The World's Greatest Detective is a maniac completely out of his head on drugs at all times and Dr. Watson, his own personal "Dr. Feelgood," isn't much better off! Appearance meets reality as the duo must cope with their handicaps while recovering composer Joseph Haydn's missing skull.
BODHISATTVA - In San Francisco, there is a madman who sees into other dimensions, a hospital orderly whose karmic corruption makes him prey to dark powers, a middle-aged man from India unraveling under the guilt of having murdered his wife in a "cooking fire." What is it that links these men? Who is the mysterious Many-Eyed Man who appears to them to steer their lives on their appropriate karmic course? |

WORLD ZOMBIE DAY TALLEY AT 6,479
First ever global zombie walk a huge success
Pittsburgh, PA –October 28, 2008 – Attendance figures for the first ever World Zombie Day are being tallied and the cumulative number for 27 of the 48 participating cities is 6,479. Preliminary estimates put the total at close to 10,000.
World Zombie Day was created by Mark Menold, producer and host of Pittsburgh’s “The It’s Alive Show”, as an outlet for zombie fans everywhere to have a chance to participate in a world record attempt as well as accomplish a charitable mission of raising awareness of the problem of global hunger. Close to 50 cities were slated to hold zombie walks and food drives on Sunday, October 26.
More than 1,300 zombies gathered at the Monroeville Mall outside Pittsburgh, PA, exceeding the city’s count from last year by 325 – a second consecutive Guinness World Record was set there in 2007. Food donations are still being weighed by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, but organizers feel that donations far exceed that of last year (1,200 pounds).
Final counts from all cities are expected within a week, and then will be submitted to Guinness for verification of a new world record for largest zombie gathering.

From Terry M. West
DREG
Terry M. West reports that Media Blasters has optioned the film adaptation rights to his novel, DREG, and that West himself has been tapped to deliver the first draft of the screenplay. DREG, described as a psychological werewolf novel, saw print in 2003. A previous preview comic drawn by Glenn Chadbourne brought attention to the character before the novel ever saw print.
"DREG has been floating around for awhile, and has developed a cool little following, largely in part to Glenn's interpretation of the character," West said. "DREG was optioned off and on by a few companies through the years, and now I am very excited about seeing DREG finally brought to life on the screen. Media Blaster's Carl Morano read the novel while we were shooting Flesh for the Beast and approached me last year about putting it together for Fever Dreams. DREG is ambitious, and Carl has encouraged me to adapt the screenplay balls to the walls. It's going to be fun. DREG is a weird hybrid of fairy tale, good old-fashioned horror and suspense."
Terry M. West also starred in E.C.McMullen Jr.'s short film, LAST CALL |
West, now getting back into the business after a hiatus to welcome his son, Terrence, into the world, has a couple of other projects lined up. Besides a starring role in Alan Rowe Kelly's upcoming DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT remake (not to mention Kelly's controversial short, A FAR CRY FROM HOME, which stars Terry as a homicidal, homophobic tent preacher, which is currently making the festival rounds), West is also putting the finishing touches on a remastered, recut edition of his debut film, BLOOD FOR THE MUSE.
"Blood for the Muse was the most critically received film I have done, but I was never happy with the technical aspects," West confides. "The new Omega Edition of Blood for the Muse allows me to go in and make the film the best it can be. It will be offered through Pleasant Storm Entertainment late this year."
A teaser trailer and preview clips for Blood for the Muse can be seen at PleasantStorm.com.
West is also currently talking to Hart Fisher's Crime Pays Inc. about doing the post production chores on HELL'S FURIES, the biker revenge film West shot in Arizona a few years ago. Talks are also going on with the American Horrors company about a possible debut of Hell's Furies on European cable.
Those interested in reading DREG can download the novel in PDF format for free for the next month by clicking on this link: TerryMWest.com/Dreg.pdf
Though he has no say so in the casting of the Media Blasters film, Terry says his choice for the part of DREG would be the actor he envisioned when he wrote the novel.
"Michael Berryman, baby. He's perfect."

HORROR GIANTS ELITE ENTERTAINMENT AND BRAIN DAMAGE FILMS ENTER EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTION DEAL
Scarborough, ME – Elite Entertainment, one of the world’s premier independent suppliers of horror/cult/sci-fi DVD titles, has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with horror label/distributor Brain Damage Films. Under the deal, Brain Damage Films will distribute Elite’s complete catalog and all upcoming titles, both in the U.S. and Canada. The announcement was made today by Vini Bancalari, President, Elite Entertainment, and Darrin Ramage, President, Brain Damage Films.
“This switch to Brain Damage Films represents a bold and exciting move for Elite Entertainment, as we continue to expand the reach of our programming,” said Bancalari. “It's encouraging to know that in these economic times, two independent labels within the same genre can form a relationship that will continue to pump out both catalog and new programming to an ever-growing fan base.”
“Elite’s library of restored cult classic horror and Sci-Fi films is second to none in quality,” said Ramage. “As Elite continues to acquire high quality, independent horror programming, it will mark another step in Brain Damage Films’ continuing growth as an independent distributor of this genre.”
Brain Damage Films will immediately begin distributing Elite’s catalog, which includes the George Romero classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD; the original I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (ahead of the 2009 theatrical remake); Fearmakers Collection (a three-disc set chronicling the careers of the true masters of horror); Creature Features (a history of monsters in cinema); and SAVAGE HARVEST 2 and The Severed Head Network (from independent film company Wicked Pixel Cinema).
The first new title in the Elite/Brain Damage deal, to be released in the first quarter of 2009, will be DEVIL GIRL, a sexy, psychological, road trip cult thriller that devolves into a living nightmare (for a preview, visit DevilGirlTheMovie.com).
