ALL HOPE IS LOST
LOSS OF HOPE is a 6-minute short film, produced and directed by filmmaker Scott Jared Goldberg. Scott and FRIDAY THE 13th veteran Paul Kratka, wrote the screenplay for the film, based on a short story by Jennifer Baltusis.
Paul plays the character Paul Sanders, a man who loses his wife on a cold winter morning. A nuclear attack blamed on terrorism is what the mainstream news reports as the cause, but is there more to the story than what is told through headlines? That is the question filmmaker Scott Goldberg asked while researching the media:
“We have the opportunity right now, because of the Internet to find out information that we couldn’t find out twenty years ago. The issue with this however is that there is also misinformation within the true information and it's up to the individual to make their mind on what they believe and do not believe.”
The film focuses on Paul's loss of his wife, Claire, as he and his daughter Sara seek refuge in their basement. In a painful recollection, Paul looks back on the days when he was a young man falling in love, a young man drafted to fight in Vietnam, returning home to start a family he would eventually lose.
“Focusing on certain aspects of love was very important in the story because usually an audience feels emotions when they can relate to what they are seeing on screen.”

Remember the visceral thrills from Sam Raimi’s EVIL DEAD 2? The horror romp of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s FROM DUSK TILL DAWN? Well, now we have caught that same vibe again, reimagined in one unforgettable new DVD debuting this Halloween 2008 season - TRAILER PARK OF TERROR!

Instead, terror finds them in the form of Norma, a damned redneck reaper with a killer body who dispenses vengeance and death aided by her cursed companions, a bloodthirsty brood of Undead trailer trash. ZOMBIE MASQUERADE SCAVENGER HUNT!
FeoNote: If you plan to be in the Phoenix, Arizona area this October 3rd, you may want to know about the following -
Gather your team for the first ever Zombie Masquerade Scavenger Hunt at First Friday 10-03-08.
Zombie groups of up to 4 will compete in a list of zany tasks at various First Friday locations between 8pm and 10pm this Friday in a chance to win VIP passes and other prizes to the Horror & Sci Fi Film Festival.
The Specifics: RULES
If you are in a Zombie Costume you will receive extra points!
Anything not expressly prohibited or illegal is ok.
A list of the items to be found and their point values can be picked up at any time between 7:30pm and 10:00pm. Registration begins at 7.30pm, Scavenger Hunt starts at 8:00pm. Look for our booth on Garfield (the Block Party) between 4th and 6th Street.
A team must have at least two people and a name (maximum 4 people)
Publicly available transportation (e.g. train, bus, taxi) is fully legal.
Items can be turned in any time before 10 PM.
You may make as many check-in trips as you like.
Items turned in after 10 PM receive 0 points.
Photos of objects are not as good as the object (for object specific challenges)
Partial credit is liberally allowed.
Be creative.
The judges' decisions are very arbitrary and final. Judges will give NO help. Judges will only rule on an item's worthiness when presented with an item; no hypotheticals.
Your team cannot split up into separate vehicles. You can proceed on foot in different directions, but you can use only one vehicle per team. There will be random checkpoints throughout the night, and if your team is not all together at each checkpoint, you will be disqualified.
You cannot complete everything on the list.
Pick and choose a path that maximizes your points.
Some items/photos are off the beaten path.
Evaluate the possible points gained vs. the time it would take to complete before embarking on a long trip.
The point total listed is the maximum.
The judges have discretion to lower the point total if the photo/item checked-in is a stretch or not exactly what we are looking for. Judges also have discretion to provide bonus points for exceptional photos or items.

DOOMSDAY
Over at his MySpace blog, Writer and Director Neill Marshall (DOG SOLDIERS, DESCENT) is talking about the latest successes of his movie, DOOMSDAY. Just this week it fell off the #1 slot in DVD and BLU-RAY sales in the UK, after enjoying a nice three week stay there, since September 1.
And Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida has a DOOMSDAY part of their theme park in celebration of their Halloween Horror Nights festivities.
Odd when you consider that it was marketed as a SciFi Action Thriller and all of the many Horror aspects were never mentioned. Hmmm...

GETTING BRUTAL
BRUTAL is the debut film by Milwaukee native Nuna Minch. With a background primarily as a musician and leader of the band NUNA, Minch did whatever was necessary to get his message across. He achieved notoriety for once performing at the world's largest music festival - SUMMERFEST - in a wheelchair with a neckbrace and backbrace on after a serious car accident two days before. Minch has taken this fervor into his role as writer, cinematographer, editor and music supervisor (his brother Mark scored the movie) of BRUTAL.
The full-length feature film was shot with a single digital camera and tracks a group of ghost hunters/documentarians as they search for a reported haunted site along a river bank in Caledonia, Wisconsin. While looking for the spot where the young boy who disappeared is rumored to appear, the group runs into the wrong person. BRUTAL is an indie/art house style that falls into the Horror/Terror category. It is sure to push buttons and generate some controversy as most films that strive to go past the usual do. The cast is new and fresh and much of the action is "real".

Ken Foree heads Zombie Fest guest list
Pittsburgh, PA – Thirty years ago, Monroeville Mall was overrun by zombies. Only two humans survived the ordeal – and one of them is returning to the site of Dawn of the Dead next month.
Ken Foree (FROM BEYOND, DAWN OF THE DEAD [2004], BRUTAL MASSACRE), who played Peter in the original DAWN OF THE DEAD film, will headline the guest list for The It’s Alive 2008 Zombie Fest™ - a free fan festival that will take place at Monroeville Mall outside Pittsburgh, PA on October 25 and 26. The show is open to the public and all ages are welcome*.
In addition to Foree, who has also appeared in director Rob Zombie’s THE DEVIL'S REJECTS and HALLOWEEN, other guests scheduled to appear are:

Zombie Fest is part of Pittsburgh’s Zombie Weekend, kicking off with a Zombie Masquerade Ball sponsored by Straub Beer on Friday, October 24. The Ball is open to ages 21 and older; tickets are available for $20 in advance or $22 at the door. The fun continues on Saturday and Sunday as zombies and zombie fans invade Monroeville Mall for the second annual Zombie Fest featuring specialty vendors, celebrity guests, bands, author panels, films, games and contests.
The highlight of the weekend will be the annual zombie walk on Sunday morning, which drew more than 1,000 people in 2007 and earned a Guinness World Record™ and Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award. The walk is the hub of World Zombie Day with 50 cities participating worldwide. All cities are holding food drives in conjunction with their walks – Pittsburgh zombies are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Activities taking place at Monroeville Mall are free this year. “In honor of the 30th anniversary of Dawn of the Dead, we wanted to give all zombie enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy a fan fest where the movie was filmed. And given the current economic climate with rising gas and food prices, we thought that free admission would make it easier for fans to come out and enjoy the festivities”, says organizer Mark Menold, producer and host of The It’s Alive Show.

ARTS FOUNDATION TO HOST “BREW VIEW & BOWL” FUND RAISER
Screening of BUBBA HO-TEP (Rated “R”) Crestline, CA - On Saturday, September 27, 2008, the Crestline Creative Arts Foundation (CCAF) will host a special “Brew View & Bowl” of BUBBA HO-TEP (Rated “R”) at the newly reopened Rim Bowling Lanes on 23991 Lake Drive.
Doors open at 7pm, the film begins at 8pm, admission is a $5 dollar donation (An additional donation of a canned good for the Crest Forest Family Services Food Bank is appreciated.). Bubba Ho-Tep is about “Elvis (Bruce Campbell: EVIL DEAD, ARMY OF DARKNESS, SPIDER-MAN [all]) and JFK (Ossie Davis), both alive and in a Texas rest home, who fight for the souls of their fellow residents as they battle an ancient Egyptian Mummy!” Crestline locals appear in the film. Reggie Bannister (PHANTASM [all], BUBBA HO-TEP), plays the Rest Home Administrator who’s “Just trying to figure out what’s going on to his patients!” and, Gigi “Fast Elk” Bannister (BUBBA HO-TEP, SPRING BREAK MASSACRE) appears as a good ol’ “Trailer Gal.”
The evening is hosted by musician/actor, Reggie Bannister - who will introduce the film - and is preceded by the showing of a 10 minute short film, Charlie, which was locally shot and produced by students of the CCAF Free Film Camp.
The “Brew View & Bowl” event is a fund raiser for a new CCAF Free Film Camp in the coming year. “What we do,” states Reggie Bannister, “is pair mountain students with mentors in the film industry to shoot a short film from start to finish.” The camps are organized and taught by Bannister and his wife/ CCAF president, Gigi “Fast Elk” Bannister (a Special Effects Artist by trade). “We take students from story concept and scripting, to story boarding, and finally to shooting the project. The story idea is all theirs. We shoot on a Canon XL1 donated by Scott Straley from rimoftheworld.net.” The final product is then entered into film festivals around the country. With a copy of their final project in hand, CCAF Alumni have been accepted to formal film school and gone on to working in the film and related industries.
“It starts at about $2500 to produce a film camp.” says Gigi Bannister. “The more funds we have to work with, the larger we can make the project for the kids. My husband and I take nothing for fees but, over a weekend or two, we bring other directors, videographers, and editors from down the hill, put them up locally, feed the cast and crew, and make DVD copies of the finished project for the kids and film festivals.” The CCAF Film Camps also bring a trickle down economy to local businesses. “We are able to show students there’s something out there for them beyond flipping burgers. When we bring films to shoot up here, these young people work right along side us, readily trained. Everybody wins by supporting these students.”
Gigi adds, “The pizza places love it when I call up ordering “pizza for 100.”” The Bannisters are heavily assisted by private donors on producing the film camps and doing fund raisers throughout the year. Students are drawn from the Rim High School drama and film/video classes as well as other schools.
“The film camps are FREE because it levels the playing field for all students.” Says Gigi. “Parents and sponsors are allowed to donate funds specifically for food & supplies. In not charging, students from all walks of life can come together for these projects.”
For the “Brew View & Bowl,” attendees can purchase beer, wine, and pizza which they can then bring upstairs into the screening, and younger kids can bowl or play games in the arcade downstairs. Thus the name, “Brew View & Bowl.” (Must show proof of age for purchasing alcohol.) Bubba Ho-tep is Rated “R.” “We’re hoping to do more “Brew Views” in the coming months.” adds Reggie Bannister.

Fangoria Chainsaw award winner Tracy Coogan (ZOMBIE HONEYMOON) will star next to James Russo (Dario Argento's TRAUMA, THE NINTH GATE, DEEP CORE, SATANIC, DEAD WATER) in the psychological thriller DARK WOODS.
Dark Woods is a mystery thriller written by John Muscanero, and is based on true events.
The story follows a couple who moves to a secluded cabin in the woods to cope with a terminal illness of the wife (not to be confused with Harry Shanon's DEAD AND GONE). As the wife's condition drags her deeper into dementia and darkness, the husband's friendship with a local teenage girl takes a dangerous and obsessive turn.
The film is said to be similar to the works of David Lynch and Michael Haneke, with the feeling of the 1969 French classic "The Swimming Pool/La Piscine".
