Horrorfest III
From Brian Tuthill
AFTER DARK FILMS ANNOUNCES AFTER DARK HORRORFEST III

From Within Joins the After Dark Horrorfest 8 Films to Die For Lineup
(Los Angeles, CA) – The dates and newest addition for After Dark Horrorfest III were announced today by After Dark Films’ CEO Courtney Solomon. The After Dark Horrorfest will take place January 2-9, 2009 marking its third year. The new title joining the 8 Films to Die For lineup is FROM WITHIN, directed by Phedon Papamichael (Director of Photography on 3:10 to Yuma and the upcoming W.) and written by Brad Keene. The films stars Elizabeth Rice, Thomas Dekker, Kelly Blatz, Laura Allen, Adam Goldberg, along with Rumer Willis. Adrian Butchart and Chris Gibbin produced. From Within premiered at the 2008 Tribeca film festival.

In From Within, a rash of suicides hit the small community of Grovetown, causing fear and panic among local residents. As those around 18-year-old Lindsay continue to die gruesome deaths, she begins to distrust everyone and suspects she will become the next victim.

"We've been fans of the After Dark Horrorfest 8 Films to Die For series since it blasted onto the scene two years ago. We feel that we are in great company this year since the films look to be the best yet. We are delighted to have From Within take part in the latest installment,” stated Butchart.

This year, After Dark Films produced three of the eight films to be showcased in Horrorfest III’s 8 Films to Die For series that include: SLAUGHTER, PERKINS 14 and THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT: REVELATION (see additional information on these titles below). These films join Gaumont Films’ THE BROKEN, as part of Horrorfest. Three more soon-to-be-announced films will round out the lineup.

“After Dark Horrorfest III is poised to deliver more high quality horror films that our fan base has grown to expect from the 8 Films To Die For Series,” stated After Dark Partner/CEO Courtney Solomon. “We take a lot of pride in delivering films that span the entire horror genre. In addition, we are very pleased to be adding From Within to this year’s Horrorfest. The film has an excellent premise that delves into areas previously unseen in past Horrorfest films, and is a worthy companion to our previously announced slate.”

After Dark Horrorfest III runs over the course of one week in theatres across the United States from January 2nd – 9th, making it the largest film festival in the world. In it’s initial 2006 run, this unique festival was the first of its kind, celebrating the horror genre by showcasing films that run the spectrum of horror from thrillers to gore to the supernatural, and became the first film festival in history to break into the top 10 at the national box office, grossing over 2.5 million dollars, on only a quarter of the screens of any other film in the top ten that weekend.

In conjunction with YouTube, After Dark Films will also renew its search for the next great queen of scream – Miss Horrorfest III, the official spokesperson of Horrorfest. Contestants can submit 90-second videos on YouTube and participate in live auditions to be held in October 7 in New York and October 9 in Los Angeles, in the hopes of winning the coveted title of Miss Horrorfest III. In one of the most popular contests in YouTube history, users have the ability to influence the selection by voting live online all the way through to the crowning of the next Miss Horrorfest. Audiences can log on to YouTube.com/Horrorfest to cast their vote.

For more information on After Dark Horrorfest III, including how to purchase tickets and all access passes to this hair-raising national event, please visit the official website at HorrorfestOnline.com.

The winning pitch and audience selection was Perkins’ 14. The film revolves around the arrest of a suspected murderer and the bloodshed that follows.

Founded in 2006 by film producer/director/writer Courtney Solomon and real estate and textile financier Allan Zeman, After Dark Films is a leader in independent film finance, production and acquisitions of genre films for theatrical release. The company fully finances, produces and releases films in the $1 - $20 million range and enjoys a 3-year output deal with Lionsgate.

After Dark is perhaps best known for its creation and execution of After Dark Horrorfest – 8 Films to Die For (HorrorfestOnline.com). Debuting in 2006, After Dark Horrorfest is a one week national film festival that celebrates all areas of the horror genre. In its first year, Horrorfest became the first film festival in history to break into the Top 10 at the national box office, grossing over $2.5 million. Now gearing up for its third year, After Dark Horrorfest has created successful brand extensions in the form of the annual Miss Horrorfest contest (YouTube.com/Horrorfest) and the feature film contest in partnership with the filmmaker community site, Massify (Massify.com).

Cyblade

TOP COW AT BALTIMORE COMIC-CON

Publisher returns to the Charm City with special guests, exclusive comics and great giveaways LOS ANGELES, Calif., September 3, 2008 – Top Cow Productions Inc. announced today it will be exhibiting at the 2008 Baltimore Comic-Con, a comics and pop culture extravaganza to be held at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland from September 27 – 28. Top Cow will host scorching-hot, rising star Kenneth Rocafort (MADAME MIRAGE), who will attend to mark the debut of CYBLADE #1, for which he has provided a variant cover. CYBLADE #1 by Joshua Hale Fialkov (Pilot Season: ALIBI) and Rick Mays (New Avengers) marks the launch of a solo series based on the young, psionic blade-wielding member of Cyberforce and follows her adventures before joining the team. The series is a result of a fan-voted poll in Top Cow’s 2007 Pilot Season initiative, in which readers voted on which one-shot they’d like to see made into its own series.

Rocafort will also be on hand to sign copies of the Madame Mirage Vol. 1 trade paperback, which is available for the first time in September and collects all six issues that he and writer Paul Dini (DETECTIVE COMICS) worked on. Madame Mirage is the tale of a gorgeous, tech-savvy femme fatale who targets an underground organization of super-villains for termination, but as the title suggests, all is not what it seems. Rocafort also penciled one of 2008’s Pilot Season books, THE CORE, and will work on an as-yet-unannounced project for Marvel Comics.

An exclusive Baltimore Comic-Con cover for BROKEN TRINITY #2 by Top Cow founder and superstar artist Marc Silvestri will also be available at the show. Broken Trinity is a three-part mini-series with three tie-in books in which at least one established character dies and new characters are introduced to the Top Cow Universe with permanent ramifications.

Top Cow will also present a panel on Saturday afternoon (check schedule at the show for time and location), where attendees can hear some exciting announcements about upcoming publishing plans, including new projects from top creators. Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik, VP Editorial Rob Levin, Ron Marz, Lee Moder and Kenneth Rocafort will sit on the panel for the presentation and will also be available to answer any questions.

At the Top Cow booth, Sablik and Levin will be conducting portfolio reviews and accepting leave-behind samples of artwork from individuals who are interested in entering Top Cow’s 2008 Talent Search, in which two talented up-and-comers will be invited to study under Marc Silvestri in the publisher’s Los Angeles-based studio. See the schedule at the booth for designated times.

As a bonus, there will be free preview books, prizes and other giveaways available at the Top Cow booth at Baltimore Comic-Con, so fans should be sure to stop by when they attend the show. Tickets for the event are available at BaltimoreComicCon.com.

Secret Histories
From F. Paul Wilson
IT'S F. PAUL, YALL!
AVAILABLE NOW: JACK: SECRET HISTORIES - a new novel about Repairman Jack as a teen. The first of three Repairman Jack novels for young adults. (Shall we call him Li'l Jack?). Alexis sent me a rough cut of the JACK: SECRET HISTORIES trailer. Not exactly how I pictured li'l Jack, but it looks great.

Check out, JACK: SECRET HISTORIES

For a perspective on how the bits and pieces of my opus vitae fit together, check out The Secret History of the World.

Historical note: Years ago I sold film rights to THE TOMB to Beacon Films/Touchstone Pictures. The idea has been to title the film "Repairman Jack" and turn our guy into a franchise character. The project has spent 11 years in development hell, chewing up 6 or 7 writers who've churned out reams of scripts. For a blow-by-blow account of the travails, go to: RepairmanJack.com/newsblog.htm.

Word from Beacon that they're meeting with a company tomorrow that is interested in partnering with them, and will be going over directors. They think it "could be terrific news for the project." I have no idea what this means.

For more news, check out F. Paul Wilson's official website, RepairmanJack.com.

Transformers
TOMORROW'S DVDS TODAY!
Every Tuesday in the U.S.A. is DVD release day and these are the DVDs getting released!

TeeVee -
SUPERNATURAL: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON

BLU-RAY -
THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, OUTBREAK, TRANSFORMERS (2 disc)

And these are the movies

BACHELOR PARTY IN THE BUNGALOW OF THE DAMNED - With a title like that, these folks weren't exactly aiming high. Take it for what it knows its worth and you might have a good time. Stars Monica Dupree (SKELETON KEY 2).

CANNIBAL - Could be good. Based on the true life instance of a man who had a lifelong interest in Cannibalism, deciding to seekout wannabee bowel movements for a get-together. Amazingly enough, he found several and, once he made his buffet choice, captured the whole thing on video in case he needed to defend himself in court. He did indeed, and even though he had a video recording of the victim plainly saying that he wanted to be eaten, the cannibal still went to prison. This movie is a dramatic re-enactment.

COONS! NIGHT OF THE BANDITS OF THE NIGHT - It could only be from Troma, and it is.

DO OR DIE - From 2003 comes this SciFi Horror Thriller with all of the quality you've come to expect from the SciFi channel.

THE GLEAM - Mad scientist takes in boarders for VERY mad reasons!

THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN - This is an animated feature film. NOT to be confused with the live-action IRON MAN.

THE MORGUE - Six strangers hovering between life and death hang out at the local morgue and get to know one another.

SAVAGE WEEKEND - From 1976 comes this tale of a Savage Weekend. How Savage was it? Hoboy, you shouldn't know from it! See, these city slickers took a vacation in rural upstate new York, and you know what happens to city folk in the woods!

SILENT MOBIUS: THE MOVIE - From 1992 comes this Japanese anime. Only the future police force known as AMP can stop the evil creatures who want to take over the ravaged city of Tokyo.

SKELETON KEY 2 - Nothing like the first SKELETON KEY, not that it was any great shakes either. Stars Monique Dupree (BACHELOR PARTY IN THE BUNGALOW OF THE DAMNED) and Syn DeVil (DARK PLACES).

TIME AFTER TIME - From 1979. Author H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell: CAT PEOPLE, FIRESTARTER 2, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, DOOMSDAY) invents a time machine. His friend, John Leslie Stevenson (David Warner: CAST A DEADLY SPELL, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, SCREAM 2, PLANET OF THE APES [2001]) turns out to be Jack the Ripper (these kinds of things are NEVER a pleasent surprise) and steals the machine to escape into the future. The machine comes back without Jack and Wells goes into the future to stop his old pal.

WATCH ME - Folks who never heard of FEAR DOTCOM or KAIRO or PULSE are in big trouble with a killer email attachment.
