Red Velvet
DARIO I MENTION?
Producer Sean Fernald (XOMBIE) writes in to say that director Dario Argento saw his movie, RED VELVET, and wrote Sean to say,
"I enjoy with red velvet is a good work also for you producer. I hope a day to meet you all best dario argento"

FeoNote: Though Amazon.com chose RED VELVET to launch their exclusive release line in feature films, many U.S. distributors took a pass on it. Though the 3Mac Studios team is probably too kind and diplomatic to say it, I can imagine that this blessing from Dario Argento (INFERNO, TENEBRE, PHENOMENA, OPERA, THE CHURCH, TRAUMA, THE STENDHAL SYNDROME, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK?) must feel like a triumphant "In Your Face!" moment.*

And hey, they advertise with me as well! I'm glad I made the right choice too (I really didn't feel that "Talk to Emo Girls For Free" ad was going anywhere).

*Then again, maybe I'm just a ridiculous fanboy.

Visit Sean's other project, XOMBIE.

Nope, it’s not another installment in the Universal Monsters reboot, but a new online series that will debut “around March 15th,” according to screenwriter (and first and longest running feoamante.com alumni) Kelly Parks, whom I “spoke” to via Facebook last night.

Is 'Saw VII' The Final Installment Of The Horror Franchise? Maybe, But Probably Not!
Is Jigsaw finally going to die? I mean, really really die? No more flashbacks, no more traps, no more gangly bear trap masks? Well, probably not, but the screenwriter behind the upcoming "Saw VII" seems to think that the end of the franchise is nigh.

Kevin Smith May Try Crowdfunding Horror Film, Red State, After Fans Offer To Do So
We've already pointed out how director/writer/filmmaker/entertainer Kevin Smith is a great example of a filmmaker embracing the model of connecting with fans and giving them a reason to buy, even to the point of saying that unauthorized file sharing is just a way to get more fans he can "convert." Apparently, he may take things to another level, by following a crowdfunding effort similar to what we've seen with some musicians and authors.

Paranormal Activity
Horror movie terrifies Italian kids, angers politicians
ROME — Low-budget US horror movie "Paranormal Activity", a box office hit in Italy, kicked up a storm among politicians and associations on Monday because it is terrifying teenagers and children across the country.

Continued at AFP Google.
FeoNote: In the U.S. it's become tres chic to piss on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. But you know what? I don't care what other film makers and actors say or how loud they say it. This movie is scaring audiences world-wide which is exactly what a Horror Thriller movie is supposed to do. Scare the Audience! If your Horror Thriller movie did anything less, then it's not as good. Period. So suck it up and go make something better.

'Red Riding': Noir Horror In Britain's Grim Gray North
"It's gettin' dead murky, innit?" comments a copper in Red Riding: 1980, the middle — and best — installment in The Red Riding Trilogy. He's referring to a serial-killer case, but he might as well be speaking as an audience surrogate: This serpentine crime procedural, spanning 10 years, three films and multiple, overlapping plotlines, laughs at the expectations of viewers accustomed to Law and Order rhythms and scenes that slam shut. Here, closure is a reward offered to none but the dead.

The Book of Eli
YOU DUG IT
It was inevitable that AVATAR would eventually drop from it's #1 slot. Almost as predictable was that it would fall to a chick flick. Take away the spacechips and guns with the big bad mens and isn't a romantic Pocahontas tale all you have left? Wasn't TITANIC just a chick flick at its core? AVATAR drops to #2 with a still impressive $22 million weekend.
You are also still digging THE BOOK OF ELI, which dropped to #7 in its 4th week. After 4 weeks, ELI has broke even at the box office, though the odds are slim that the big budget movie ($80 million) will break even for the studio.
SHERLOCK HOLMES has been on the studio profit gravy train for weeks now and drops to #10 with a total U.S. box office of over $200 million.

YOU BURIED IT
You are REALLY not liking LEGION, which drops to #9 in only its 3rd week. Because of its small budget, it already broke even at the box office, yet is too far away to break even for the studio.
THE LOVELY BONES dropped from #7 last week to #13 this week, and won't be breaking even at the box office. This dud is the only thing Dreamworks has in theatrical release.

Alien
HAPPY HORROR THRILLER BIRTHDAYS TO -
Without him, there'd be no ALIEN. His work was the best thing in SPECIES and the only thing that has kept that franchise alive. Because of him, all Horror movie creatures have lips that move, complete bodies. Just as he was inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, so this artist has inspired thousands of writers, musicians, artists, and movie going generations with his fantastic art. Hail and Happy birthday to
Artist H. R. Giger (Books: NECRONOMICON, NECRONOMICON II, BIOMECHANICS, SPECIES DESIGN, FILM DESIGN, THE MYSTERY OF SAN GOTTARDO. Film: ALIEN [all], POLTERGIEST II, TEITO TAISEN, SPECIES [all], KILLER KONDOM, ALIEN VS PREDATOR [all]) is 70.
Where features are concerned, this actor is largely turning out Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Suspense. And his future roster continues that trend. Happy Birthday too
Actor Michael Sheen (MARY REILLY, DOOMWATCH: WINTER ANGEL, UNDERWORLD [all], THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN'S APOCALYPSE, TWILIGHT: NEW MOON, UNTHINKABLE) is 41.

The Hurt Locker
QUICK BITES
It's 'Avatar' vs. 'Hurt Locker,' and a Bunch of Surprises
“Avatar” showed off its muscle at the Oscar nominations, but “The Hurt Locker” stood toe-to-toe with its biggest competitor and held its own.

As expected, James Cameron’s sci-fi blockbuster landed the most nominations, with nine – but in a slightly unexpected show of strength, Kathryn Bigelow’s Iraq drama landed the same number of nods from Academy voters, cementing the fact that this year’s Oscar race has come down to a two-film competition between former spouses.

Frostbite: An Interview with the Cast and Director of 'Frozen'
It was a surprisingly sunny day following a snow-drowned weekend as I walked from the Village Cinemas to Park City's Main Street to interview Emma Bell about her Sundance Festival Film "Frozen." FEO FLICKS
My video pick of the week is AARON MATTHEW KAISER and the FORD FIESTA MOVEMENT, Chapter 2.

Why you may ask? What does it have to do with Horror, Thriller, Mystery, or Suspense? Well the main thing is, I'm IN it! And EVERYTHING goes better with me!

Enjoy this week's pick for FEO FLICKS.

Avatar
YOU DUG IT
No surprise here. AVATAR remains the reigning champ after 7 weeks!

You might be digging EDGE OF DARKNESS, which came in a distant second, but is actually doing pretty well for a January opening weekend during Sundance.
You are definitely digging THE BOOK OF ELI, which has stayed in the top 5 for three weeks straight. Not an easy thing for any movie that opened under the shadow of AVATAR, but especially when ELI came out in a week where most of the country's major cities were socked in by annual bad weather.
Of course, you continue to dig SHERLOCK HOLMES, now in its 6th week and still riding the profit gravy train at #8. This could be the next big franchise for Robert Downey Jr., and who doesn't love an underdog like that?

YOU BURIED IT
LEGION dropped like a stone from #2 to #6 in just one week. A fall of over 60% in ticket sales sealed LEGION's fate. At the relatively modest budget of $26 million, LEGION has broke even at the box office. It's unlikely that it will break even for the studio though. It is said that Screen Gems spent nearly as much in advertising LEGION as it spent in making it. Angels fighting with magic, light saber-style fiery swords (with the "Woom!" "Woom!" Woom!" sound) would have been wicked cool. Angels shooting at each other with un magical sidearms and semi-automatics is just pathetic.
THE LOVELY BONES, which spent its first five weeks on only 3 screens nation wide. It went wide release on Jan. 15, scooping out third place. Dropped to 5th place in it's second week of wide release, and is now at 7th on the third. 8 weeks in all, but a very poor performer, and nowhere close to even making box office break even, let alone studio break even.

TOMORROW'S DVDS TODAY
MIn the U.S., DVDs are generally released on Tuesday and these are the movies hitting home video tomorrow.
