Join the Facebook event!

We are in negotiations with Fourth Street Live to hold the event there. This event WILL happen however the dates and locations are still TBA. We just want to get the word out now. We've talked to the folks that hosted "humans vs zombies" on the water front and it looks like they are in. We want to talk with those that run the zombie walk and hopefully get them involved.

In doing so we would be filming (for several films), have a zombie walk to the the skate park for a final scene and then to the water front for the largest humans vs zombies game of tag in history!

Then party with us at Fourth Street. This will be a huge festival with special guest stars from some of your favorite zombie films, plus local talent, bands, artists etc... Help us out and join in on the fun. You can also help fun this film and the event by going here. You recieve a ton of cool stuff with your help. Check it out at KickStarter.

The Scientist Who Made A Zombie Movie
The first feoamante.com alumni to work with me here is former CIA Rocket Scientist, Kelly Parks. While he continues to write here on occassion, we also make movies together. Our last film, UNIVERSAL DEAD, featured a script by Kelly (also producer on my short film, LAST CALL), direction by Vernon Mortensen (also my editor), and me as Art Director.

EEEK!
EEEK! upcoming cover
From Frank Forte
RETRO-HORROR ANTHOLOGY EEEK! JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN
(Los Angeles) Asylum Press announces the release of an all-new horror anthology entitled EEEK! by creator Jason Paulos. Shipping in Sept. 2010 it’s just in time to shake your bones for the Halloween season.

EEEK! is a homage from artist/writer Jason Paulos to the classic horror comics of his youth. Taking a pinch of black humour from EC comics and mixing it with the art stylings of House of Mystery and Warren comics, Paulos blends a heady broth that hits you like a burning incense stick to the retina.

'EEEK!' is my love letter to cheesy 'retro' horror comics” say creator Jason Paulos,”... in particular Charlton, House of Mystery, Warren, and to a lesser extent 80's stuff like Death Rattle and Twisted Tales. If you made a movie of 'EEEK!' it would be described as the bastard child of Evil Dead and Austin Powers. One of the story titles is 'Death Wears Hotpants', so you can draw your own conclusions from that.”

“We’re very excited to have EEEK! Join the ranks of the horror titles we have brewing at Asylum Press,” explains publisher Frank Forte, “ Jason Paulos has a knack for bringing bringing back those morbid feelings I got when I read the old Eerie and Creepys, but he does it with a new twist.”

EEEK! VOL. 1 will be a soft cover TPB annual anthology. Standard comic book dimensions. 152 pgs, B&W with COLOR section , perfect bound. Ship Date: Sept 2010. Intended Audience: General Readers.

Iron Man 2
From Feo Amante
YOU DUG IT
Dropping 53% in ticket sales in its second week, you are still digging IRON MAN to the tune of over $12k per screen, making it retain its #1 ranking for the second week in a row and passing the box office break even point. Now to see if it can go the distance!
You are still digging CLASH OF THE TITANS, which slips from #7 to #10 this week. CotT has stayed on the top ten for the last 7 weeks, but has never been a big earner. It's total cume is $160 mil box office against a $125 mil budget. Which means a studio break even of $250 mil before distributor costs. For perspective, IRON MAN grossed $128 mil in its first weekend and surpassed its budget in the second. Comic Book fans RULE!

YOU BURIED IT
Dropping from #2 to #6 in its 3rd week and bringing in $4 mil., you continue to show no love for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2010). Even with the expected high weekend brought on from the audience cache of the original, fans lit up the message boards further entrenching Michael Bay's name as a producer who cannot be trusted with horror titles or horror franchises.

Michael knows how to make fun, forgettable, disposable crap. He EXCELS at fun, forgettable, disposable crap. As long as he keeps making entertaining garbage, I'll continue to keep watching it once before moving on. I'm apparently not the only one who has lost all interest in watching Bay impotently take on classics and fail to perform or satisfy.

Drummer Boy
From Scott Nicholson
BEAT OF A DIFFERENT DRUMMER
Award-winning author Scott Nicholson has taken an Appalachian folk legend and spun it into a new supernatural thriller, Drummer Boy.

Nicholson took the idea for the novel from "The Jangling Hole," a local folk legend in which the spirits of Civil War soldiers are said to linger in the Linville Caverns. Because the peaks were so rugged and remote, deserters from both sides of the Civil War often hid out in the caves.

"According to legend, you can still hear the jangle or clink of their tools and mess kits inside the caves, often with a spooky echo," Nicholson said. "Ghosts are more fun when kids are involved, so I created a group of three friends who investigate the legend. The boys are loosely based on my own childhood, recalling the alienation and the sense of being an outsider."

The main character, Vernon Ray, wants to be a drummer boy in his father’s Civil War re-enactment troop, but the father is distant and suspicious because his son is "different."

"I served in a Civil War re-enactment in Boone a few years ago, so I brought that element of living history to the novel, though it’s very much a contemporary tale of the supernatural," Nicholson said. "The one thing about real 'make-believe' war is that it’s loud and dangerous, with large horses, intense action, and a very loose script that creates a lot of improvisation. I wanted to combine that sense of make-believe with the actual legends and create a milieu in which the young boys try to fit in."

But the drummer boy discovers that he belongs to neither the world of the living or the dead, but he is all that stands between the town and the ghostly Civil War troop.

"We’re all misfit kids," Nicholson said. "Some of us are just a little older than others."

The e-book version recently hit #1 on the Amazon "Ghosts" category and #2 in "Occult." All e-book versions and signed copies are also available through his Web site at HauntedComputer.com.

Nicholson also recently released The Skull Ring, a psychological thriller in which a woman's lost past comes creeping back when she becomes the target of a sinister cult.

"I based the novel on research involving False Recovered Memory Syndrome, in which a number of psychiatrists encouraged their patients to build memories of Satanic rituals," he said. "Personally, I'd rather write than go to a shrink. I've never seen anything wrong with being crazy, but I've seen plenty of wrong committed in the name of 'helping' someone."

Nicholson is the author of nine novels, including The Red Church and They Hunger. He’s written three story collections, six movie scripts, four comic book series, several children’s books and a number of songs and poems. He’s a freelance editor, journalist, and organic gardener.

GRIM IS OUR GRIST
Comic artist Gris Grimly writes in to say,

Hey Society of Graverobbers,

Sorry for yet another unattractive basic update. I will get things together soon and start sending out the fancy HTML emails that blow your striped socks off.

It's been a while since my last update. That is because I have been extremely busy with everything happening at Mad Creator Productions. Some of you may recall that I mentioned back in the new year that I would not be doing conventions this year. That fact still remains. I will miss San Diego Comic Con and all the beautiful fiends that come by every year. Do me a favor and punch a stormtrooper for me. Ha Ha... just kidding.

Although I am not doing conventions, I will have a booth at this year's Hootenanny July 3rd. Why the Hootenanny and not other conventions where I would make more money? Because I want to be at the Hootenanny and there is no better way to attend then under my own personal 10 x 10 shaded canopy space. The Hootenanny is SoCal's leading car show/rockabilly festival. This year's headliners are Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis (how could I miss that!). If you wear a Gris Grimly t-shirt to the festival, I will give you something really crypt kicking. So if you plan on going to the Hootenanny, make sure to swing by the MCP booth.

The other way I am moving merchandise is through a monthly sale at MadCreator.com. Every month a new set of items are on sale. This month (throughout May) I have Sipping Spiders merchandise at ridiculous prices.
