An eighth Silent Hill game will be released next year on PS3 and Xbox 360, Konami has announced.

The Book that Broke Ground on Horror History
For anyone who legitimately enjoys the horror genre, not to mention any aspiring horror writers (both book and script), a healthy diet of the history of horror fiction is likely a prerequisite to fully appreciate the modern day works, including many of the stories that have inspired today's writers and filmmakers. To broaden your horizons on horror from a historical perspective, it might be in your interest to pick up Horace Walpole's Castle of Otranto, written in 1764, which paved the way for current tales from the crypt, even horror classics like Frankenstein and Dracula that may seem age-old in their own right.

Ashland author takes on horror genre in stories
Thomas M. Malafarina likes to be scared by a good horror film or story, so much so that he decided to write his own horror fiction tales.

A native of Ashland, Malafarina stopped in his hometown Friday to donate his two published books -- "Ninety-Nine Souls" and "Thirteen Nasty Endings" -- to the Ashland Public Library, and promised a third book, "Burn Phone," when it is published in the near future.

Unnamable Lovecraftian horror
As a longstanding fan of the macabre, I tend to hold H.P. Lovecraft in high regard. Lovecraft was an author of pulp fiction in the 1920s and 1930s, selling short stories of "cosmic horror" to pulp magazines like "Weird Tales." He died at the age of 46 in 1937, and was largely unknown until years later, when the influences of his writing were traced back to him. Stephen King is an example of an author heavily influenced by Lovecraft, calling him "the twentieth century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale."

"Doctor S The Movie," directed by Brownsville native Bryan Ortiz, is a zany comedy horror flick set in 1964. In the movie, communists are sending marijuana reefers to the United States to destroy America's youth, and a scientist, Doctor S, begins doing experiments on the marijuana.
