Comparisons are often made to Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak building computers in their own garages, but it is quite a leap from building a better something that exists, to building something that may not be able to exist.
So yeah, massive gulf between the two.
Even with that said, there is something so intrinsically cool about the fact that David Pares would not only try, but he actually has the knowledge to make it work.
This isn't some uneducated tin foil nutjob gluing toothpicks together. David knows the calculations involved.
That too is not to say that despite his bones in science and mechanics, David may not be nuts.
It's just unbelievably believable enough, that I want to see it work.
Is it realistic to think that Pares could make warp Drive work?
It's improbable, but it's also entirely possible!

Sigourney Weaver: 'Alien vs. Predator' "Really Depressed Me"
I have to agree. While I enjoyed them in the theater, they don't age well and they wear out their welcome fast in home video.
The first one went from cool to okay to video exchange.
The second one, bleh!
That said, ALIEN vs PREDATOR in the Darkhorse comics was pretty sweet, as was the advanced, intelligent and speaking ALIEN.
