Back in 2003 at the San Diego Comic Con, this was the short film that woke everyone up.
The Joker escapes Arkham Asylum and death is on the loose in Gotham. But The Joker isn't the only terror in the night.
Nearing the eve of the 2016 San Diego Comic Con, it's important to remember the bar this fan film still sets. It's not ALIEN, PREDATOR, or BATMAN canon (even though Batman has faced both in the comic books), but more than a few Hollywood producers have tried to figure out the legal logistics of bringing all of these characters together on the big screen the Sandy Collora way.
This remains my favorite fan film of all time. The Proof of Concept for a feature film that never was but always should have been.
This movie so stunned everyone in 2003 - basically because it gave so many fans from different genres everything they didn't know they craved - that someone made a feature length documentary about it. BEHIND THE MASK: THE BATMAN: DEAD END STORY.
When Christopher Nolan's BATMAN BEGINS was released two years later, it (intentionally or by coincidence) adopted the darker, far more sinister tone of BATMAN: DEAD END.
This short fan film has its own Wikipedia Page.

In addition to Writing, Directing, Production Design, Art Direction, and Storyboards (w/Michael Alexander) on BATMAN: DEAD END, Sandy Collora is primarily a Special Effects Artist. Brought up in the Stan Winston Studios since the age of 17, Collora has also worked with Rob Bottin, Rick Baker, and Vincent Guastini. Working as part of a larger crew has often left Sandy off the movie credits, but among movie makers, he's known for his impressive work on THE ABYSS, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5, PREDATOR 2, THE CROW, MEN IN BLACK, and DOGMA to name a few.
