The opening credits to James Bond movies are always artistic as well as iconic, but probably none moreso than this opening to 2007's CASINO ROYALE.
As Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell, moved into a solo career, MGM and Sony executives in charge of the lucrative James Bond franchise were willing to pony up major money for just one song. A song that would embrace the new, hence risky, direction they were going with the character.
They felt Chris's powerful male voice could introduce the new James Bond, actor Daniel Craig.
Working separately and without contact, Chris worked on the lyrics while composer David Arnold worked on the music. When they finally met to put it all together, David said it felt like both were working together on the same song from the start.
YOU KNOW MY NAME would go on to earn a 2007 Grammy nomination, but wasn't included on the CASINO ROYALE soundtrack.
The music, however, is only half of this unforgettable equation. The opening title sequence, from London boutique studio, Rattling Stick, was personally created by RS co-founder, Daniel Kleinman with title production by RS co-founder, Johnnie Frankel, and VFX supervision by William Bartlett.
