MAYNARD & SIMS
BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS

"Like gentleman peddlers selling dark miracles, this long-time duet crafts fiction that reads like the secret geography of nightmare."
- William P. Simmons.

Maynard and Sims maynard-sims.com have been writing for more than twenty-five years. Writing fiction together since 1972, we try for themes, characters, and intricate plots that evoke the atmosphere of traditional supernatural literature without resorting to cliché story lines or stock characterizations.

Our hardback collection SHADOWS AT MIDNIGHT was first published professionally in 1979 by William Kimber of London. In 1999 Sarob Press of Wales professionally published the revised and enlarged edition, and it is now out of print. Stories from it were nominated for Honourable Mentions in Years Best Fantasy and Horror, as well as the British Fantasy Society Awards. The collection was short listed for the Dracula Society Award.

Our second collection ECHOES OF DARKNESS was published in May 2000 by Sarob Press and is already out of print. It was Stoker short-listed. Stories from it have also been Stoker nominated, awarded Honourable Mentions in the current Years Best Fantasy and Horror, and nominated for British Fantasy Society Awards.

We also write crime and mainstream stories. We contribute a monthly essay column ENIGMATIC ENTERTAINMENT From Maynard & Sims on the professional web-magazine operated by Mark Chadbourn, At The Worlds End. We contribute a regular essay column, STORIES AND STORYTELLERS, on the international web-magazine Masters Of Terror. We write book reviews for various sources.

As editors we were invited by The British Fantasy Society to edit and publish their new annual series of books under the ongoing title F20. The first debuted at Fantasycon September 2000.

As publishers we operate under ENIGMATIC PRESS, which produced the well regarded Enigmatic Tales, Enigmatic Variations, Enigmatic Novellas and Enigmatic Electronic. This has been so well received that we were able to obtain some Arts Council funding. We were nominated for the International Horror Guild Awards and the British Fantasy Society Awards in 2000.

We have current professional acceptances from Bell Book and Beyond edited by P D Cacek, the HWA affiliates anthology, The Children Of Cthulhu edited by John Pelan for Del Rey, for Horrorfind USA website for Brian Keene, and The Evil Entwines a collaborative collection from John B Ford. We also have a crime story accepted by Gerard Houarner for his Red Work anthology, and a children's story accepted for the First Stories For Kids USA book.
Our new collection of supernatural stories THE BUSINESS OF BARBARIANS is currently under consideration.

We have a short supernatural novel, THE SEMINAR currently under consideration.
We also have a story collection HORROR POWER available for the young adult market.
We are currently working on a young adult crime novel, several short stories, some synopses for a television series, and an adult mainstream novel.

We are mature men, with boundless energy. The first two reviews received for ECHOES both hold a common theme - "These stories touch on a variety of styles with greatest expertise, and in an ideal world these authors would surely be earning their living from entertaining us."
Terror Tales newsletter, UK.

"I hope that at least one of the stories in this collection will be reprinted in some `best of anthologies. It's time for Maynard and Sims to be known as authors in the so-called mass market, and not just in the small world of limited editions."
All Hallows, Canada.
