DISNEY'S
ALIEN ON TV |

Married With Aliens Ahem... From the producers who repeatedly shot a once successful franchise in both feet through four long decades comes - Direct to Video ALIEN in drag as Fresh Idea!
Well whattya gonna do? Disney bought Star Wars and then spent over a billion dollars doing fuck all with the franchise at a time when fans thought no one could do worse than creator George Lucas. How wrong we were. As the actors of that disaster rage against the mouse machine (not the first time prominent actors in the franchise felt that SW ruined their lives), Disney must have looked at the Phoenix rebirth of Star Wars via TV and the unexpected success of the ManDelorean. Of course, when your Yoda is a baby that is modeled after the still adorably popular Gizmo in GREMLINS, that's a trebuchet shot fired over the heads of the competition. Disney's other 20th Century Fox property, ALIEN, isn't quite as Disney channel family fare though, so... off to FX. For a fact, in at least two iterations, novels and comic books, ALIEN has run as a sort of series for decades. Wassmor, Dark Horse Comics (THE MASK, HELLBOY, FLAMING CARROT, SIN CITY, THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY) published pretty much all of the ALIEN titles and their permutations (as well as the majority of Star Wars titles), so there's a precedence. However there was always that demarcation between the non-canon comics and the movies. So what's my problem with all of this? Same as yours, probably. The showrunners of ALIEN have been incompetent stewards of the franchise from 1992's ALIEN³ all the way to ALIEN: COVENANT. Ridley Scott, for his part, has repeatedly shown that, like George Lucas and the late George Romero, he's run out of ideas since his first time at the helm of the movie that made him famous and relevant: ALIEN. Remember that Ridley's pitch for a sequel back in the early 1980s was turned down and James Cameron won instead. If you wonder what that 40 year old pitch involved, look at PROMETHEUS. Gag! This is a problem because Ridley, who fully believes that an aging and dimwitted conman like Erich von Daniken is relevant to the series, is still attempting to beat credibility into Erich's long dead but still coveted Chariots of the Gods pet horse. It's also worth admitting that the only reason this will become a TV series is because those stewards of ALIEN and Disney have gave up and thrown in the towel on ever making a good movie in the ALIEN franchise ever again. They have no idea how to make a good ALIEN movie and in fact, they are so utterly adrift on even the idea, that they don't trust themselves to hire anyone who could possibly save it as a movie franchise. So now, for anyone who bothers to look, we get to watch them bury the body. That said, there are those who disagree with me.
