There's this short film I saw online once, where people are cyborgs but their robot parts are all neon.
You must be talking about TRUE SKIN by Stephan Zlotescu.
Stephan Zlotescu is the Writer, Actor, Visual Effects Supervisor, Producer, and Director of TRUE SKIN. This is his first production and I hope to see a lot more from him soon.
TRUE SKIN also starred Jen Oda and Omar Ahmed Said. With Music by Justin Katz and Cinematography by H. One or N10N.
The lavish neon Production Design was handled by Shamim Seifzadeh
While heavily influenced by Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, TRUE SKIN did an incredible amount of environment and cast on virtually no budget and very small cast.
Some have derided TRUE SKIN for being a concept film and not a true, wholly contained short film or short story.
Personally I have no problem with that.
I was raised on Ray Bradbury short stories that were both self-contained and yet were clearly a minute slice within a larger before and after. This is how Bradbury wrote novels from THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES to DANDELION WINE (in essence, collections of short stories within an arc). And enough other authors have followed suit (Isaac Asimov, I, ROBOT. Robert A. Heinlein, THE GREEN HILLS OF EARTH), to solidify the form and give it a name: Composite Novel.
There was a time when short story writers would create a universe and write interconnected short stories within that universe that referenced previous (and sometimes) future short stories. Each one could stand alone, while still referencing the bigger picture. In fact, Heinlein and Asimov referenced their fictional settings and plots in their other full novels as things that happened in any given novel's past (Asimov's FOUNDATION series + I, ROBOT short stories + R. Daneel Olivaw).
But, other people have other tastes.
