PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES
SCIENCE MOMENT
Meteors, by definition, come from space, they don't exist in space. A meteor is the existence of an extra terrestrial object entering the earth's atmosphere in a trajectory that will result in collision. Now whether this collision will make a noticeable impact or whether the collision will be from dust as the object burns up in our atmosphere doesn't change its state. Prior to entering our atmosphere, the object could have been any manner of space debris from asteroid to comet, their fragments, or something else. As long as it wasn't an object that originated from earth.
Sanya: "An alien of that size? He vould have an enormous schwanzstucker."
Mark: "That goes without saying."
Watch the video and get an eyeful! Or just listen to it while you read the rest of this review and get an earful!
There are so many more science problems with this movie. The crew of Argos using radiowaves - which can only travel at the speed of light (by definition) - to instantly communicate with sister ship Galliott, which is 3 PARSECS AWAY!
That's nearly 10 light years!
(9.78 to be exact) The triple star system of Alpha Centauri is less than half that at 4.37 light years away. Come on. Then we see the Galliott enter orbit within minutes of being 9 parsecs away? Traveling at that speed, flying "meteors" are the least of their problems! Everything in the cosmos would appear as a stationary object by comparison and harmless. At that speed, a plastic water bottle could likely fly unscathed through our sun!
Dr. Karan: "T-take that you th-th-th-thing from another world, you!"
On top of everything else, despite having full body spacesuits, they all go exploring outside in their uniform jumpers. No spacesuits on an alien planet? It doesn't matter if the atmosphere has enough oxygen in the mix, there are plenty of other gases, elements to consider.
They're navigating lava pits belching who knows what poisonous gases, and they walk around breathing in the air that contains who knows what microbes.
It doesn't matter if those alien microbes didn't evolve to feed on our DNA. Lots of microbes feed on the chemical make-up of the earth and some of its living inhabitants who require those chemicals to live.
What doesn't break the Science Moment are the powerful 25gs of gravity the crew is nearly killed by. In PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES all the crew realize this isn't natural but artificially created by whatever is living or once lived on the planet.
A Kudo for the crew going into the danger openly considering whether the "gravity attack" (we would call it a "tractor beam" in modern parlance) was an intentional attack by a hostile enemy, or an auto-response by a machine.
"I'll tell you this, if there 'are' any intelligent creatures on this planet... they're our enemies."
